2025 List Management Discussion - Part 5

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

2025 KEY DATES
Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th

I dont mind that Jack Steele is leaving, but what we got for him is a disgrace. We have folded one again. And we badly need picks this year.

Guys, what did you expect? We told him to leave, basically. No other club was interested except West Coast, who he didn't want to go to. He was on a big pay packet for next year, apparently. We weren't getting a second rounder. It was equivalent to Macrae deal where they at least said he was a required player.

If you’re having a quite beer check they haven’t been tampered with.

They pinched Billings off us now moose and Jack, does that sound like a club going places ?.
They've been held back by poor coaching for a few years. I think they could have a new coach bounce next season, they've got some good kids and good players. Will be an interesting side to watch next season.

All the best to Jack.

Are the club delusional about our midfield stocks? I’m stunned, unless he’s on $1 mill a season, doesn’t make sense…

He'd be on 700-800k and was probably gonna be playing ressies.

The negative POV is we sold our former skipper for nothing.

The positive POV is we gave a club champion a real chance to extend his career at a new club.

He will tag team the #1 inside role with Viney and Gawn will absolutely feed him the ball. He's gonna put up some awesome numbers for the Dees and be paid well to run around at the elite level for far more games than he would have had with us.

It's the classic "if you love me, let me go" story.

Sigh - well I'm sad to see him go, but if it results in a better growth profile for youngsters and eventually to a premiership then it will be a good move in hindsight.

Still leaves a bad taste in my mouth because I genuinely loved the bloke for all he's done - I wish he'd dropped the captaincy earlier (yes I know the players kept choosing him but I felt we had some other options who could have stepped up), and we saw more of the best of him in recent years.

Combined with Aleer being dropped and now this, it's a waiting game to see if this is chickens coming home to roost on the salary cap side, or not.

Lyon thinks he can't spread and is slowing up. I would prefer to keep, but there you go.

think it was closer to 950k?

So…can we assume either that:

A - we’ve cooked the cap
B - we’re actually fine and don’t see a real need, even with potential injuries
C - we have another big fish to go after next year

Wish him all the best, will always be a saint

But think Melbourne will regret giving him an extra year, his knees are gone
