2025 List Management Discussion - Part 5

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

I dont mind that Jack Steele is leaving, but what we got for him is a disgrace. We have folded one again. And we badly need picks this year.
We don’t. We don’t want picks this year. That’s the point. The draft is crap.
We want picks from next year.

Any idea on the thinking with stacking 2027 picks Neil?
There's been a trend to using ultra late picks this year for some reason.
I'd suggest that with Tassie getting extra picks in 27/28/29 etc, that it's just matter of getting some sort of presence in that draft, though the value may be next to nothing which is why they'd be offered up in the first place.

Unfortunately, I think F3 was to be expected. A slowing down 30 year old, albeit a top citizen, had very limited interest I think we just take the pick, and the cap space and focus on Boxshall becoming Steele Mk2.
It’s fair price for Steele if Melbourne are paying the full salary. Great idea for the Saints to get his contract off the books. Member picks up an experienced mid to help out the new coach and their midfield.

Good work by both clubs.

I don't see it like that. It is freeing up extra space to be used on young players we have coming up for new deals or a play for a big fish like Butters, Walsh etc. Steele doesn't really have a spot anymore.
I agree his body language was terrible at times and led some of the worst standards in club modern history. No doubt a very good player but no leader. Sad to see him go for tuppence but he would have been a midfield liability next year

Very hard call by the club but true to the mantra of improving no matter what. Also sends a very clear message to our players…we ain’t mucking around.

Being Cal is very good mates with him I can see why he has been upset with our strategy l. But nice to see Cal has put his big boy pants on

Is Steele even on 'big' money? I thought his deal was front ended?

This is a positive move for the club going forward, he can't play in the midfield anymore.
I reckon we are rapidly approaching the point where player salaries need to be made public. If nothing else I would love to see what some of those Geelong players are on.

I would disagree we need picks.

Its a piss week draft by all reports.

We will take 1x NGA kid in Kye Fincher who's a good 2nd round prospect. We can get him with a discount.

One other decent pick would be nice but not essential this year, we are trying to bank future picks where drafts are expected to be stronger.

Marshall was front loaded, not sure Steele was. Sounds like he signed a big deal at the height of his powers.
