2025 List Management Discussion - Part 5

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

2025 KEY DATES
Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th

One of the journos said earlier they had been speaking for a week
There you go.

And I just think it needs to be said. A f3 in 2027 is a shit return. But it’s also a thank you for your service and we won’t be difficult about this.

I'm happy we get a fresh start with our midfield in 2026. Steele has been cooked for 2 years - he's far too slow and it was time for a change.

There's no time for sentimentality - we have been the definition of average for far far too long.

Steele was only WORTH a third round pick. Nothing more than that.

Been trying to tell people all year. Jack Steele is worth bugger all, very similar to MaCrae last year.

Nothing to do with his salary. He's a 29 year old mid that averages 20 touches a game and was likely being pushed out of our midfield.

Sad end for him at the club but a good career move. Hopefully for his sake he finds form again but we could not demand a higher draft pick unfortunately.

I “get” the Steele trade but it’s hard to argue it doesn’t look ****ing horrendous.

Bloke was our captain 6 weeks ago and now he’s out the door for a pick in the 50s.

Ruthless business and a sweetheart deal for him but it just feels gross
Yeah I thought he’d stay and fight or be depth or best 22. And I felt gross when I saw the pick.

But I understand it all and I’m content with it for all parties and myself. Wish the guy all the best.

Glad it’s not the dons.

We don't have salary cap issues, I think. It is more we don't want to waste cap space when it could be used on big fish and re-signings next year.

I actually think it's purely a list spot decision coupled with respect for Jack wanting to play senior footy.

Macrae, Flanders, Garcia and Windhager all going to play most games. We have Nas and Hall pushing in more regularly, guys like Wilson, Boxshall, Dow, Carroll, Trav etc all pushing up from underneath.
