It should not be too hard to get a dedicated high pressure small forward who goes front and centre, just need super fitness, mongrel and a modicum of footy nous. Richmond had a fleet of them through their 3 flag era.

Totally agree.
So many have poor goal kicking preparation. Routines work. Matthew Lloyd, Josh Kennedy, Lockett, and Hogan. If your job is to kick goals, well that’s what you should do.
I can’t understand modern footballers spinning the ball during their run up. Kicking a ball straight is a simple formula. Run directly at the target. Hold the ball steady over the preferred kicking foot, guide it straight to that foot. Too much running on arcs, spinning balls, and poor ball drops. It’s frustrating to watch.

Jacko is always look for a way to make himself relevant lol

We thought we did too, but they aren't performing

Ours are show ponies, always going for glory. I think Charlie, Kai and Bailey are all too similar to each other. Ah Chee and Linc at least bring different strengths.

Short memories…. Confident when we get to the pointy end we will have the right smalls to do the job. Show ponies is a bit harsh.

Kai looks like he is playing injured, he may be the type that can't perform even with minor niggles, rest him v Cats and then he has the bye as well, back after the bye.

Charlie is bereft of confidence, needs to be told to just concentrate on his defensive intensity and the offensive game will flow from that.

I don't know what else to call them, they're always trying to take mark of the year and don't apply the level of pressure they used to. Though at least Bailey has mostly stopped thinking he's GAJ and trying to run through three defenders.

I wonder if Mitch Cleary has heard from the club that they're keen on eventually bringing Doedee into the team in place of Gardiner?
He's mentioned Doedee possibly coming into the team in Payne's position later in the year multiple times since the injury.

I haven't seen/heard Mitch Cleary, but I think anyone could surmise that. The question all year has been "how are we going to get Kiddy and Doedee (and Starce) in the backline. Well a spot just opened up, and Tom was brought into the club to do a job. Another VFL game, a bye, and then see if Tom is ready.
He's far from a like-for-like replacement... but it's pretty easy to say 1-in-1-out.

Seems to be a weird fixation from the media on Doedee.

So with Jack going down, do we get to upgrade someone (like
Arnold/ McFadyen) to take his list spot?

If he'd done it before the MSD, we could have drafted one of them. Not now.

Brereton said whilst calling the game on radio that Kai just can't get his ankle right and it's on his jumping leg which is a bother. Also went on to say his shoulder isn't quite right either so perhaps rest n rehab is his best friend as he is achieving little at the moment.

We have the obvious need for a Ruck KPF replacement. With Allen being injury prone and Draper chasing the big bucks maybe we should look around for another player not being given a chance at their Club. Enter Harry Lemmens at Carlton. 3rd year 201cm and out of contract. He's kicked a bag of 4 and another if 7 in the last month.

The only problem is if TDK walks for big bucks, that leaves Lemmey with a starting spot and a pay increase right where he is.

Whatever we had on the table for Allen should be reconsidered by the club now.
It is a reported 6-year contract for a player that was struggling and now injured.
I could handle 3/4 years as it looks like just salary involved, and the player and family have to move interstate.
However, salary is still important if you want to keep good players on your list.
Personally, i like the look of Fergus McFadyen and would go that way or another KPF in the draft or elsewhere instead of Allen.
We also have Gallop that has shown enough.

Our 2026 issues as i see them.

I was against the Doedee trade because of his 2 previous ACLs and his long contract. Now it's 3 ACLs.
Doedee is 29 next year stuck in the VFL behind Lester who is 33 next year
He was a risk signing then and still is. Hopefully the club get rewarded at some stage. At least he is playing VFL now.
Charlie 32 next year with a contract extended for way too many years.
Hopefully Charlie comes good this year, but he has slowly declined the last 2 years.
Oscar showing signs of struggling and both he and Fort both 32 next year
Day was a stop gap for 2025 but has shown he can fill that structure gap when playing.
Unfortunately, Day has been injury prone for the last 5 years and is 33 years old next year.
McCarthy ACL is 32 next year
Gardiner 30 next year. Going okay after an ACL injury but borderline until Payne got injured.
McKenna stuck in the VFL and 30 next year.
Zorko playing well but 37 next year
Neale still playing a high-class game but 33 next year.
Payne out for 12 months with either Gardiner 30 yrs or Joyce (OOC) 29yrs playing this and next year on field or depth.

Then Coleman has some issues. Let's hope he recovers and retains his 2024 form but that's an unknown at this time.
Starch may or may not stay.

All of the above indicate to me another premiership side could fall off a cliff very quickly unless they get lucky.

I am more hopeful about this year than next year at this stage. The reverse of most posters on BF.
Year 2026 will depend a lot on the draft, any 2nd string players we may get to play a role and/or existing VFL players that improve a lot like Gallop and others.

Most will disagree with this but i don't see Anabelle making us a better side in 2026. In the future possibly.
If he plays, he just pushes Levi, possibly a small forward out and the VFL boys Marshall, Torrent etc. further down the list.
We will have way more problems next year than thinking a young midfielder or an out of form/injured Allen will solve.

Fair arguments but we do seem to have players simmering away in the background to transition as these guys age / retire. Coleman of course is a huge question mark sadly but Fletcher has shown he can do the Zorks role to a pretty reasonable degree. Beecken has come on in leaps and bounds and should hopefully be a decent replacement for Charlie if he continues his alarming decline.

The issues really are ruck and centre forward and we seem to be targeting these with Allen and Draper / insert name here. Who knows, Smith might come back seamlessly from his injuries late season and put the need for Draper to bed.

In terms of Neale, we have the two Ashcrofts that should help bridge until Annable is ready. There are a lot of unknowns for sure but I think we should still be really competitive this season and next. 2027 onwards will be real question marks as a number of blokes will be getting into veteran stage by then but we seem to have some good key position players coming through that we can hopefully get in. Hopefully we also hold on to Morris because it looks like he and Gallop should be our KPFs for the next decade along with Allen.

Our two real needs IF we get Allen are to hope Smith comes good in the ruck or we get a Draper et al and they play above themselves, and a KPD to replace Andrews at some point / cover for significant injuries moving forward because as you say, Gardiner, Joyce and Doedee aren't getting any younger.
