Because of who his dad is, he would have had access to fairly elite coaching though not competition if he decided to stay in Brisbane. Players can choose not to nominate for F/S if no academy is involved. They can choose a team to go to if they are eligible regardless of which one is in more need of their talents. I don't think the sole purpose of the acadmies should be looked at to be only for players who were could have ended up playing another sport. They also offset the huge advantages that Victoria has with their pathway programs and to a lesser extent WA and SA. There isn't many retired elite footballers that aren't directly involved with AFL clubs living in NSW or QLD but they are almost dime a dozen in Vic, WA and SA. The football coach I had for year 7 school footy was a guy who played won the BnF at Adelaide in 95 and played in the 97&98 premierships.
I was young at the time but I don't remember the AFL media bemoaning the fact that Marc Murphy didn't want to leave Victoria so refused to nominate under F/S.

This is clickbait garbage anyway.
Free agency exists because the players want it. The compromise with the clubs is the FA compensation. This incentivises clubs at the bottom of the ladder to push out their experienced players (with value), in return for top draft picks.
Players leave for 2 things - either money (Ben McKay, TDK), or success (Tom Lynch).
So naturally, players from clubs at the bottom of the ladder, move to clubs at the top of the ladder.
Take away compensation, you'd have clubs at the bottom of the ladder fighting harder to keep their senior players and offering more coin to convince them.
Purely my opinion, I'd say Chris Fagan and Dom Ambrogio would be there, if the player sees Andrew Crowell sitting at the table as well they are delisting specials.Does anyone have any insight into our "Exit Interviews", i.e. who conducts them, what happens and how long the meetings last. With 38 players on the list I assume they only last about 15 minutes or so and most of the stuff covered has already been communicated prior to the interview, particularly if a delisting is on the cards.

Josh Jenkins was talking about exit interviews yesterday. For contracted players, he said the exit interview was pretty basic stuff - a bit of feedback on the season, what needs to be worked on, training plan for the break, and when they're due back.Does anyone have any insight into our "Exit Interviews", i.e. who conducts them, what happens and how long the meetings last. Rising Kerry star set for AFL visit amid signing fears
Brisbane Lions are one of two clubs understood to be in discussions with Austin Stacks and Kerry midfielder Ben Murphywww.irishexaminer.com

Comments from Kerry Chairman Patrick O’Sullivan IMO.
“Representatives of the AFL are constantly floating around Kerry minor and U20 teams over the last number of years. They come selling a professional sport to our younger players. It is hard for young players not to look at a professional career in sport,” O’Sullivan said.
“The Association has to take some action regarding the AFL’s constant scrutiny of our younger stars in Ireland. Procedure will have to be put in place where players cannot be taken without contributing to the club and counties who give so much to the development of these players.
“If our younger players keep emigrating to Australia, the outlook for Kerry senior teams going forward will not be a good one. Kerry players are at the heart and soul of our county, and we, as an Association, have to figure out a method to retain and keep our players at home in Ireland.
“We in Kerry aren’t the only county suffering from this issue. There are players from other counties choosing to emigrate as well. We will be calling on the GAA to form a committee to look into this matter.”
Gaelic football is an amateur sport. Of course the players would be keen to look at being full time athletes and potentially making 6 to 7 figure salaries a year.
I get the frustration of losing good talent but shouldn't you also be happy that these kids have an opportunity for a career in sport?Sounds like they should pay their players properly!
Yeah but they are pumping money and time into them, only for them to be taken. So what’s the incentive. I actually kinda agree with it. Should be like a transfer fee that AFL should stump up.I get the frustration of losing good talent but shouldn't you also be happy that these kids have an opportunity for a career in sport?
Edit Brandon Ryan would be gone if true re contractList squeeze could be interesting.
Zorko going again, likely Lester too
Oscar may or may not retire
Sounds like starce is some chance of staying
Cal who knows?
Has Tunstill bought himself another year?
Do we need Craven given Charlie's drop off?
Hard to cut Joyce with no return date on Payne
Dev looks gone, maybe Torrent as well, hard to think of anyone else definitively gone which seems rare this late in the season
They're keeping all the money they make from the competitions, so it is hard to feel completely sorry for them. The percentage of money they pump into players vs the percentage of players that actually leave is fairly small. I think (and I would be) they're more upset about losing the talent rather than the money they've spent. The money and time think is not a great argument when those resources are being shared by a large group rather than a small few.Yeah but they are pumping money and time into them, only for them to be taken. Agree, I have liked the look of Jacob Blight (OOC and played a few games for the Tigers this season) from the snippets I have seen, not sure if he is much better than Joyce though.Excellent news. Great depth
Would like to upgrade Joyce for a key back depth who could play on the 2m tall forwards. Assuming ZZ is still a couple of years off
Yep Collingwood didn't complain when Buckley left the Bears after 1 year and they didn't complain when Aish left the Lions after 2 years. Richmond didn't complain when the took Lynch from the suns and neither did Melbourne when they too May from the Suns. Shoes are on the other feet now and the winning has started.I assume Eddie thought it was ok when Collingwood perenially raided all northern clubs when they were all basket cases or when Tom Lynch moved to premiers Richmond.
I really like Blight too, was really surprised he'd been delisted, maybe at 25 doesn't fit their age profileAgree, I have liked the look of Jacob Blight (OOC and played a few games for the Tigers this season) from the snippets I have seen, not sure if he is much better than Joyce though.
Someone substantially better will be hard to find.
