I can't see Dev getting a permanent gig in the Bulldogs midfield, maybe they have another role in mind for him.

The role is 'VFL player with average skills who Bevo inexplicably plays as a half forward flank in the AFL for 15 games.'

Also found it a bit odd that Dev was watching the grand final in the stands with Mitch Robinson and Rhys Matheson, and not down with the other reserves boys.

Assuming he can’t wait to get out of here.

I think they were club seats as I spotted some reserves players in the background of some of the clips posted

"Breaking news": Struggling Victorian club or Adelaide to offer a lot of money Zac's way in 2027.

Fact: Zac said that he's playing for the Lions in 2026.

So many things will happen before he has to make a decision mid to late next year. Could stay or could go, but things that happen next year will influence his decision. It's not an ongoing story for this trade period.

Modern football Media: propose a hypothetical future trade, regurgitate the idea and then react multiple times to the feedback. Rinse and repeat.

All well and good, but I am of the view that that adding a Zac Bailey to a crap team is still not going to make a huge difference. And this is the point with Starcevich as well.

The enjoyment you get out of playing footy and going into the club every day when you're getting smashed most works will just not be there. Sure, you can afford to live in a better suburb or buy a more expensive car or whatever else, but the comradery you get from winning and being in a healthy environment whilst still being paid exceptionally well, even if less than playing for a basket case, surely counts for a lot?

When talking Starcevich, the "better suburb" he's looking for is 3600km away.
(plus potential superannuation fund giving his early forced retirement risk).

I’d hate to lose Bailey because we are over paying Draper. Would rather keep Oscar and Fort and money for Bailey than spend it on Draper.
Draper's money won't come anywhere near the amount that clubs are offering for Bailey. I love Bailey, but for 1.3-1.4m per season? I would rather we didn't sign him. Hugh is on less than 1m per year and if we're going to get a true million dollar player in our club, it should be Will Ashcroft.

We are going to spend an extra $500k on Draper compared to what we might have spent on a back-up ruckman. I guess we'll find out if that was worth it in time, but $500k a season could cost us a player or two

I suppose on the flipside we don't give anyone mega payments, so rather than it costing us Bailey (we can pay him $1m but won't match $1.3m) it might be costing us players such as Ah Chee (not able to give them the extra $200k a year the crows will)

I trust our list management team wholeheartedly. They're the best in the business.

Has been mentioned we might be in line for West Coasts compo pick, currently pick 19 for Starce. Oh, the winging that will cause. My oh my.....
I'll quickly sell it back to West Coast in good faith for their future second. Hang on, may be we should get future second from them instead then....

Oscar won't be in our best 22 every game next year should he not retire this year, because his body is shot. Fort can't shoulder the load on his own and Day is a dud. Smith is raw and probably wont ever be a full time ruck as it should have clicked for him by now.

No other ruckman are available. In the window. The club know Draper is a walk up start next year and securing him accordingly.

Ah Chee/Starce/Oscar/Lester/Zorko/Fort and maybe Neale will be gone within the next 1-2 years. Not to mention a few players who are depth as well. These signings are important to keep us contending and I have nothing against it. Also, like you said, we're not a club that gives out mega payments. Dany Daly even said that players have to understand that they need to take unders to stay here. If you want to compete and win flags, you need players who will take less because they're so brought into your culture and your chance of success. We have to accept that some players will naturally prefer the payday, and we have to trust ourselves to find the right replacement.

Why on earth would you denigrate a Lions player by calling him a "dud"...get a life.

The last thing we need to do now is play silly St Kilda / Carlton games and unbalance our future list with unbalanced current payments.

Like with the umpiring, no one really minds how the game is adjudicated as long as it is applied to everyone equally. We have was it 8 players on rookie salaries atm - some are your Lester types but others will be needing pay rises to stay going forward - if they get it baked into their cortexes now that great but not over the top salaries are part of what playing with and succeeding with the Lions entails and they have seen that it applies equally that will hold us in fantastic stead.

Of course we will lose some to over the top pay packet offers and others when they are third in line here and can be first in line there but if we want to avoid the decade which shall not be named after our last stint in the sun we need to keep the culture strong and that is something that your StKildas and your Carltons have never (and may never) understood.
