On the salary cap, you’d think we will be transition some of our depth into the senior squad over the next 2 years via retirements or at worst guys getting new deals on less money in the final few years of their careers.

Big O, Zorko, Lester, Fort, Gardiner (maybe), Neale might move back to WA, McCarthy

Then we can refresh the depth and hopefully use the money from retirements and reduced deals on new deals for the younger up and comers.

My expectation is that we may lose Lohmann, Bailey and Morris at some stage to Melbourne clubs or Adelaide in the case of Bailey.

My worry is guys like Ashcroft, Motty and Fletcher receiving crazy offers from Tas that we just can’t match.

There is talk of Daicos being offered a $3m signing bonus plus $2m per year on an 8 year deal plus all these other arrangements. If he doesn’t take that then id expect Will might be offered a similar arrangement. Or even if he does take take it Will might still be offered a crazy deal.
Derek Hine is their recruiting person from memory. Very experienced. Can't see him going down the Ablett / suns path of putting so much in to one player.

Certainly we will be vulnerable from raids - they key will be as it ever is players signing on for less.

Fletcher is a massive signing. If he were coming out of contract in a year or two, on his trajectory, he could be looking at 1.5m. I'm assuming he signed of for way less given it was done in the middle of this year. So that's a big tick.

You would think as long as we are going well as a club the two Ashcrofts don't push us for their maximum pay.

In terms of the rest of our list that could get godfather offers, the remaining worries would be Bailey and Morris. It might help us that Tassie is too far away for Bailey - here is hoping we can get something done next year.

So for me Morris is the biggest danger. Comes out of contract at the end of 2027. Will be some silly salaries flying around. We will just have to keep our heads. If we lose him so be it - i think time and again putting too much salary in to one or two players doesn't work.

If Allen fires, and Gallop develops more, If I was the club I would encourage Hipwood to explore his options end of next year. Saves us a good chunk of money.

I think you’re overestimating how much Hipwood is on and how thin our tall stocks are.

You’re also ignoring Fagan’s philosophy. We aren’t asking players who are happy to be here to leave.

I’m gutted we lose Starc. Doedee deal was a disaster. Could have used his money to keep Starc. I understand the concussion risk but Starc is a key reason why the club turned around and we won two flags. Irreplaceable.

He's a life member now, and not on that much coin. Wouldn't do that.
Signed a long-term deal for 600kish a year. Still a very good player around the ground.

Played with an injury for most of the year, so didn't hit the heights everyone seems to have for him.

So Hipwood plays the same role as Fletcher?
He’s agile enough I’d think. Backline would (and will) require tinkering with Starce out.

Not that Hipwood will be back in time, but I’m a bit worried about our height stocks and can see teams targeting it next year.

Coleman, Zorko, Fletch, Motty, Harris, Gardiner (?) feels very short to me.

We have got a lot right.

But it was a strange option to pursue so keenly him given the second knee. Adelaide reportedly offered him $250k for 2 years. We offered four years at nearly $700k. I get it's easier in hindsight and he seemed to have recovered well before the 2024 season, but you would think a second knee would result in us winding back the money or the years.

Anyway hope i am proven wrong and he has a ripping 2026 and gets a flag.

Not sure we offer Starc 6x900k tbh.

Payne?

Starce is only 4cm taller than Answerth - which is basically nothing. And I believe he played on Dangerfield in round 3?
Only a small thing but Starce is listed as 188cm and Noah at 182cm on lions.com and footywire, Starce 8 Kilos heavier as well.

Love him but I don't think Noah could do the job on a Dangerfield(189cm/97kg) type.... not that there are many Dangers around.

Ah yes, let's go down the St Kilda model.
Let's pay Starce a McCluggage type contract.

Still a minor difference. I'm 190cm, and standing next to my 184cm friend is barely any difference to me. Likewise, they're both listed as medium defenders.

Every now and then people love to assume Hipwood is on big coin because his contract was so long.

When Eric's been healthy the last two years he's averaged like 3 goals a game! Gallop has had a very nice start but I don't think you can just lock him in for a spot long-term.

If that Adelaide offer is true and not mishearing, that's not a serious one and was them basically delisting him. I suspect there might be some wires crossed.
