Crows: “We will offer a large contract of 5 years minimum”
Also Crows: “Nah only worth a 2nd rounder for a dual premiership player”

Professional clubs just get it done, no wonder they bowed out in straight sets.
They used pick 28 last year for Alex Neal-Bullen
Ah-Chee a lot better player. They have 16 and 48.. 48 is an insult.
Even future 2nd be 30's if they finish top 4 again.

That’s ok Adelaide we would be more then happy sending cal to eagles who aren’t going to contend for the flag for next few years then strengthen your side. That’s the leverage that should be it. He will get a good contract at west coast would rather send him to the budgies then strengthen our contenders .

I have a confession and it’s twofold.

1. I am currently listening to Continental Tyres Trade Radio
2. I quite like listening to James Hird and want to hear more from him in footy.

Ok, I get the incoherence gimmick but sometimes you take it a step or two too far.

Oscar Allen and Logan Morris would be tied for number 1 key forward. Allen has had 1 50 goal season but has had numerous injuries the last 2 years. Morris is coming off a 50 goal year. On current form you would have Morris as number 1 target. However, it's hard to expect a 3rd year forward to keep backing up their performances with back to back short preseasons so I wouldn't be surprised if Allen has a better year next year.
This is the benefit of getting in another key forward. Allen may have better year, or Morris may have a better year - but if they can kick 80 goals between them then that is a win for the team.

Totally agree with everything you said about Hippy. 👍

Is he still talking about how unfair the Sam Draper compensation is?

I do like his analysis of actually footy though

I’ve only listened today so am not aware of previous takes

Funnily enough, it’s not the Sam Draper compo that’s unfair, it’s the bullshit that WC can pickup pick-2 for letting (pushing?) Allen out the door.

Essendon losing Draper without being able to force a trade was their own incompetence in list management.

Cal wants to go to Adelaide though, so with the morals the club has built, there will be no PSD threats.

Even if he goes in the PSD, its an empty threat because no team will pick a player who has his heart set on one club.

Adelaide are dirty arseholes - yes. If we get him to Adelaide our future second will need to be involved to get a future first.

Do we have a Catholic priest in our midst?

If Adelaide want to give up next to nothing and a late f2 will be of limited use AND Cal is comfortable with it (plus WCE will offer the same terms), then I wouldn’t melt if we PSD Cal to WCE.

I think this’ll end up with pick swaps for us to scrape points. A flat f2 doesn’t seem like enough.
Maybe Adelaide have little confidence they can repeat 2025, and don’t want to be the league’s laughing stock when they hand over 2026 pick-6 for Cal Ah Chee…

It's happened several times (Stevens, McCarthy, and a Freo rookie in the last couple of years, all off the top of my head), and part of the reason it is rare is because clubs only walk players to it in cases where they know the player will drop through to them, e.g. they've got a top four or so pick and they're going to pay the player something disproportionate to their abilities. Neither applies here.

I reckon that won’t happen. Adelaide won’t want to slide out of the top-20.
23 is technically a round-1 pick… but it’s not really.
Very simple, but Adelaide don't want to get rid of a firat rounder
Surel bringing in a best 22 player is worth a 7 place downgrade?? Its a shallow draft anyway according to basically everybody

Ambrogio was on Trade Radio this morning
  • Pursued Draper as the best ruck option available
  • Club had a feeling all year Big O was going to retire
  • Started targeting Allen after Joe retired last year.
  • Wished Starc well, confirmed it's primarily due to family connections in WA. Doesn't sound like they're targeting anyone in the comp to replace him other than who we have on the list already
  • Wants a fair deal on Ah Chee from Adelaide.
  • Club wants to get a Bailey extension done in the off-season like his previous extensions.
  • Club wants to extend W. Ashcroft "for a long time"
  • McCarthy extension will come after the trade period,

Having lived in Adelaide for a bit, trust me when I say that Adelaide supporters don't see logic like that, and neither do their club. They will see it as giving up a first which is unacceptable to them.

Sounds like the Ah Chee deal is just being held up by Adelaide not wanting to do a pick swap downgrade and their current offer of a f2 is of limited value.

I agree on the slide but if it's a shallow draft, all the more reason Adelaide want to be closer to the top of it - along with club club-media excitement around having a pick in the top-20.

Having said that, the onus is on Adelaide to come to the party on this one. They've gone after Ah Chee, made the big contract offer without currently having the draft capital to get the deal done (if they don't want to lose their first-round pick).
I'm sure something will be worked out, but unlike the GH5 period, our list management team won't be bent over this time. We have an asset that is worth more than they're offering. it's now up to Adelaide and Cal's manager to figure out how to get it done. No one wants to be seen doing a St Kilda!
