I didn’t make claims that you said anything. I was just further the discussion.

Not everything is a fight that you have to shadow box to defend old boy.

Sizey: I haven't read comments in the thread

Also sizey: disappointed in the comments in the thread

The bit that is unpalatable to me is that Adelaide seem to be trying to narrative the whole thing with the manager as being disappointed in Brisbane for not just accepting the offer. And trying to steer away from their junk offer and PSD threat.

Borderline a call from Sam to whoever is the Crows CEO to ask for a bit of professional etiquette.

That particular player manager has been on damage control with the Crom ever since Caro reported NWM didn’t want to go there because of Tex.

There's a lot of talk of academies by Adelaide fans, however I'm quite sure our (equal) second highest ever selection from our academy currently plays for them and finished fourth in their B&F.
They're constantly equating our F/S selections with Academy selections.
This would be the first time we have (potentially) gotten a top 5 pick through our academy. It's a way of cheapening what has had to happen to achieve what the club has in a relatively short time. It took as 8 years to go from a club that was struggling both on and off the field to winning back to back premierships. In that time, other clubs that were struggling such as North, Carlton, Gold Coast have done **** all. GC at least look to be heading somewhere now and have been able to turn the club around and recruited some good players.
Melbourne were in a similar situation and came out of nowhere to win in 2021, looked to be on the verge of becoming a dynasty but seemed to crumble, only playing in finals from 2021-2023 for a total of three seasons in a row.
It could be reasonably arguable we don't win in 2024 without Will's performance in the GWS game so without him we don't make the GF. But our premierships were not built on the back of high end F/S or Academy picks. It was built on great recruiting and perhaps most importantly picking up the pieces when other clubs fumbled ala Daniher not going to Sydney and Dunkley not going to Essendon, Ah Chee not being valued at GC, taking advantage when GC delisted Jarryd Lyons.
You need good people in your club who are working in the correct way. The easiest way for the people who aren't doing that is to blame academies and F/S rules. It's covering your own ass. That is what shits me about F/S and Academies getting so much credit or blame for why we are good now. It might help keep us having good youth consistently coming through but none of that matters if the club is poorly run.

In next years draft when we have picks 40 and 45 we wont be missing also having 35 and 55
We'll never know the value of us having/not having "35 and 55" and adelaide having/not having 35/55.

in terms of those picks value - Payne was a pick 54 (as a pick, not a match), Harris was matched at pick 61, Gallup at 42, Logan Morris at 31 (not far from 35)... Darcy Fort was traded for pick 41.

they could also be used to make weight in a trade as well. (e.g. the Curnow/Petracca/Starcevich deals all required lots of later pick swaps to get done).

We might want to salary dump Doedee next offseason if his fitness/form don't improve this year, and pick 35 might have got that done. May need a fort "solid citizen" ruck off the merry go round and 55 might have got that done.

and the only reason I would have made the deal is we would have both gained that marginal value and a potential premiership rival Adelaide would have lost that marginal value. Now Adelaide still have pick 35 and 55 next year to use on finishing trades as they push for a flag and we won't have them to keep covering for players we lose along the way.

Not really fussed either way as we are in a very fortunate list management position - just putting forward the counterpoint.

Essentially, teams like Adelaide place a stronger value on raw picks because we have a narrower way of bringing in young talent than a team like Brisbane. We could go tit-for-tat on whether Academy processes are fair but that's a separate argument - and it is the rules we operate under - so I'm not going to argue that here. You've benefited from the rules, as all clubs would. You've also drafted/traded very well separate from Academy/FS recently, which is a big part of your flags.

The Crows will take Cal in the PSD for nothing and move on, as I'm sure Brisbane will when they take another Academy player next month.

Why do you southern posters keep carrying this myth?

We have to give up multiple picks to match bids, we do not get these players for free.

The club would have factored all of that in before they rejected.

For which we need to use 1st Round capital to secure, not late "points". You've essentially just made my point for me.
And as we’ve kept trying to explain to you, late points are no longer useful, or exist next year.

Clubs will need top picks for top academy players.

We needed real picks. Which your club refused to offer.

And something you numpties are refusing to acknowledge.

Not sure accepting a trade because its better than nothing is a great way to do business

Crom are used to a captive media market. Rowey ain't going to call them on anything.

The only opposition in town can be easily dismissed as pear cranks for the most part (Rucci). Its not like we bothered to leak anything on our side to the part-time funded AFL journo at the Courier Mail or to Mike Whiting.

Initial reporting (leaking exclusively from News Corp reporters in Adelaide and some of the national afl staffers) was that we had asked for pick 16 or a first rounder. By last night reporting was updated to our ask being a slide from 16-23 plus a F2 or two F2s.

Crom offer went from F2 to F2 and F3 in 10 days.

Back then we were all voting Ghost for moderator.
Back when I had multiple forum accounts. Unfortunately I had to retire Ghost.

At my peak I had 4 accounts going at once on another Lions forum. Maverick, ghost, Kate and Jamie. The 4 of us used to have great conversations together.

Unfortunately it started getting a bit uncomfortable when other members started getting a bit too fond of Kate. They wanted to meet up with her. I had to explain Kate was happily married with children.

From what I have read ... all of our F/s are pick 1's and were free, all of our academy picks were free, the picks we somehow used to pay for those free picks were gained by us for free without any benefit to others, the terms F/s and Academy are interchangeable, our rights are privileges, our culture is a fluke, and our very existence in an ideal world would be merely tolerated in the lower reaches of the ladder, the folks that leave us are going home and/or leaving for more opportunity, the folks that come to us are honourless mercenaries betraying their heartland (either by leaving Vic or by not going to Vic instead of us), our rightful place is as a feeder club, we are arrogant and must be destroyed (without harming the broadcast deal), we are stubborn pricks at trade time (unless we do what we are asked to do and take what we are generously offered), that our best players would be superstars (for the same output) if they played somewhere else, and that we don't care about our players, staff, or fans.

Fortunately I don't believe everything I read!

Was she married to Mav, Jamie or Casper? ;)

I don't know why the Cows are melting down. They are getting him for nothing.
If anything, we should be the one melting given we will get nothing for him and he's done us no favours in securing adequate compensation. Liam Baker refused to go to West Coast last year if the eagles didn't properly compensate Richmond, yet Ah Chee not only will not do that, but he has refused to talk to any other club as well. Way to treat the club who revitalised your career.

Presumably when Ah Chee nominates his terms for the PSD it will become publicly evident what the Crows money offer was, and will demonstrate why the trade offer was insultingly insufficient.
