Most of them blame Oscar for that.
It sounds like the catalyst for Oscar looking around was the Eagles tabling a less than satisfactory contract.

I can guarantee you they would have met with numerous players through the year, including Starce and Ah Chee.

They handled him looking around incredibly poor. Like a controlling partner, it appeared toxic with a lot of gaslighting.

100%. They offered Oscar a lowball contract, so his management would start looking around.

The "problem" for Oscar is, one party leaked about Sam Mitchell arriving in WA and meeting with Oscar. Either Hawthorn/Mitchell, Oscar's agent or West Coast leaked to the media. I don't know why though.

He might simply have just been spotted. Either way, it doesn’t matter though I guess. Players meet opposition clubs all the time, like west coast did with opposition players. Being captain of a club doesn’t exclude you from being able to exercise your rights when out of contract.

It is inexcusable how they handled it, and Oscar has every right to feel a little aggrieved. I personally think there is no way he would have left if they got even close to matching what we offered. This is 100% their club’s doing and any frustrations should be directed internally.

Irrespective of whether he ended up in Lions colours or not, I felt incredibly bad for how he was treated.

it was pretty obviously smitch. was in his interests to make allen's situation at wce untenable and increase his desire to leave the club. fits in with his mo.

You could totally embrace the darts vibe.
  • Copious alcohol
  • Fans grouped in seating bays and encouraged to dress up
  • Player managers and recruitment staff have to walk on elevated walkways between fan bench/table areas with music playing to access each teams room/area.
  • More alcohol
  • Hype music
  • And big trade announcements made by proper announcers (ala GET READY TO RRRRRRUUUUMMMBBBLLLEEE)
Then more alcohol

nods - sounds like brand Mitchel to me!

Hope no one picks Linc up before us.

How many spots.
Oscar and Day retired
Ryan, Craven, Dev and Linc delisted
Starc Traded
AhChee uncontracted??
7-8 spots

In Allen and Draper
so 5-6 spots?

Geelong one pick before us, LOL.

So how many picks will we take to the draft?

And how many will we actually use on players in the national draft, and how many do we push in to the rookie draft.

Pretty sure we've still got 4 list spots to fill.

Linc and Annable don't change that number, however we are apparently signing that Irish guy, which will bring it to 3. Will need to see if we have spare picks in the draft/pick up rookies and/or DFA's.

Current draft picks: 17, 23, 44, 51, 59, 68, 79, 97, 115 - 2025 Draft Order
Lists: Primary: 31 players, 5 open list spots. Rookie: Cat A: 5 players, 1 open list spot. Cat B: 2 players*. 6 open list spots total
And how many will we actually use on players in the national draft, and how many do we push in to the rookie draft.
We're expexted to use 3-4 draft picks at the draft - Bombers, Suns set to dominate draft as record low looms.
Should play out like this:
Main draft: Use a draft pick to upgrade Brain to the senior list from the Cat B Rookie List. Draft 4 players to get the primary list to the required 36 players.
Rookie draft: Sign Linc to the Cat A Rookie List
Post-draft: Sign Ben Murphy as a Cat B Rookie filling out the Rookie List to 8 players.

In - Draper (Ess), Allen (WC)
Out - Starcevich (WC), Day (ret.), McInerney (ret.), Ryan (del.), Craven (del.), Robertson (del.) McCarthy (del.)

Out of contract - Ah Chee

In (expected) - Ben Murphy (category B), McCarthy (rookie draft)
Out (expected) - Ah Chee (PSD to Adelaide)

Picks
Pick 17
Pick 23
Pick 44
Pick 51
Pick 59
Total = 1756 points

List numbers
Primary list (36-38) - 32 (-1)
Rookie list - category A (4-6) - 5 (+1)
Rookie list - category B (0-2) - 2 (+1)

Total (44) - 39 (5 open spots)

Like above, we have 4 list spots to fill after Ah Chee leaves, we re-draft McCarthy and add Murphy as a cat B rookie.

We'll take 5 open spots to the national draft, and at most take 4 players and upgrading a rookie.

Might even pass on a couple of spots and fill them with rookies for salary cap benefits if there's no one we rate at pick 30+.
