Reeks of desperation. It feels like Carlton getting Judd involved with TDK (which is funny as he left for more money), is the same as us with Battle last year?
I think they (Carlton) are on the back foot and know it ?

We had Bing until the AFL offered 150k a year extra for 4 years 'ambassador' money outside the Gold Coast Salary cap. And you are correct about the picks, The person who told me the ambassador money stuff said we had the draft capital. He was a huge Saints fan lol
This has been mentioned a lot in the media
Same Simon Leathlean that said no to Noah Anderson when he wanted to came home after his 1st year, apparently we wanted to keep the picks for Ben King , this I know as fact lol
Old mate was NVG
You can never have enough back flankers at the Saints. We take Rozee we don't take Nas, don't need 2 back flankers you see

Just like taking McCartin over Petracca was the right call, King over Rozee made sense for our list at the time.
We had Josh Bruce and the injured McCartin as tall forwards at the time. Membrey was the next 'tall' forward despite being undersized.
Maxy made all the sense in the world to come in and take on the #1 mantle. We can argue about his injuries, development and how the team plays when he's available, but we were screaming for another KPF at the time.
The only realistic alternative would have been to grab Rozee and use Marshall at FF with Hickey/Longer in the ruck.
We could have possibly built something with Bruce at FF and then used Battle, Acres and Membrey as mid size targets but again, that's a coach/development issue, nothing to do with King's talent.
Plenty of Half Back Flankers on this forumYou can never have enough back flankers at the Saints.
Again, this is the argument about hindsight.
I don't recall there being many people saying we shouldn't pick Max. Billings was a consensus pick 3. \
McCartin over Petracca was acknowledged as a calculated risk at the time.
Happy for links or posts quoted to correct me.I recall a few people lamenting our midfield who were shouted down by what a generational talent Max was and how Ben would soon come back and join him.
Mcartin over Petracca was never the right call-you only have to google up type 1 diabetes and elite contact sport and work that one outJust like taking McCartin over Petracca was the right call, King over Rozee made sense for our list at the time.

Surprised you've never heard of Jamie CrippsMcartin over Petracca was never the right call-you only have to google up type 1 diabetes and elite contact sport and work that one out
Didn’t we get stuff all back for him? Can’t wait to get Harley Reid for nothing to even the scoreSurprised you've never heard of Jamie Cripps

Sometimes you need someone to break the cycle lolWhy would his son chose us over being a 4th generation Carlton player?

Max lead the thread poll, but the midfield supporters were divided between Caldwell and Smith.Happy for links or posts quoted to correct me.

What's weird is that when i cut and paste the post number it seems to link to a different post.
Yeah - didn't get much.Didn’t we get stuff all back for him? Can’t wait to get Harley Reid for nothing to even the score
Yep. Got fingers and he won a flag. Hopefully we arnt nice anymoreYeah - didn't get much.
He/we didn't discover he had diabetes until after he was drafted and he struggled a fair bit without family support here in Melb.
So we did the right thing and made it easy for him to get back to WA. Doubt anybody thought he'd end up playing 260 games.
I listened to a very interesting podcast yesterday, it concerns "soccer" but it's about data and its use in recruiting. They interview Dr Ian Graham, who worked at Liverpool FC from 2012 to 2019 and was heavily involved in the recruitment of Salah, Van Dijk and Allison, as well as the sale of Coutinho. If he only took easy options, like 80% of AFL players, he would be running at 99% DE. Because he's such a fantastic user he's given license to take on the dangerous kicks that try to open up the game for us. Sometimes these will not come off.
He's a fantastic kick, and we love it in his hands.
And if my Auntie had nuts she would be my uncleIf king had stayed healthy for the first 6 years of his career he’d be talked about as the best player in the draft.
Continuity, not ability, has hampered his career and I’d say very few of you will complain if he’s part of our next period of contention
****ing Lethlean not letting him come back home after round one.Noah Anderson signed a 2 year contract extension before his first season was over. He was never gettable or going to be traded by Gold Coast.

Pou has plenty of potential, done some nice work in a number of games, but until he can influence games as a midfielder or a forward, then we have to hope he will take another step up. We can't put every player who shows promise, into the midfield- someone needs to make it their own. McRae has shown his A-grade qualities, Nas did a few nice things in there, but seems better as an attacking half back, she for Sincs, but quality does trail away and we have groupMacrae is elite. Phillipou has elite potential. Then we have depth and developing. Steele has been a close enough to A grade. Hopefully he can have a revival. Plenty of others have fallen away and come good again. Even Cripps looked done a few years back and Ollie Wines was absolutely cooked.
Windhager still has potential to be a very good Steele level player. Phillipou, Garcia both tracking very well. Jones, Clark and Dow all uneven C to B graders who can star or stall.
Not many sides carry more than a couple of elite mids. We probably need P{Phillipou to step up to an elite level and hope that one of the kids can develop in time for Macrae to step aside. Keep adding drafted kids and look for a few bargains. Collingwood stacked their midfield with recycled talent and it looks dominant around a couple of elite talents.
Hop Max recovers, but he is an eggshell and will play a few good games and then another injury. Not sure if mentioned in the last 12 pages I’ve missed since Tuesday (you campaigners can post sheesh) but I did hear some interesting and positive news on Max’s knee. Cause for some optimism at least. We need the big unit back and I’m glad we took him over Rozee FWIW
Now how is he supposed to dominate the midfield if he doesn’t get put in there????Pou has plenty of potential, done some nice work in a number of games, but until he can influence games as a midfielder or a forward, then we have to hope he will take another step up.
