This draft seems more speculative than normal and pick 4 might be pick 7 or 8 by the time we use it.

Take pick 4 and we might end up with a gun player.

If we split, we have a known quantity in Bergman and a free hit to get a second gun.

The front end looks good. The depth is ordinary.

I’d be happy to try two rucks with 27 year old Ro, but he’s clearly lumbering compared to years gone by and I’d be willing to cash in.

Finchers early season form is undeniable at all 3 levels (state, Talent League and school) and generally journos get their form guides from those in the know. If he maintains this, he’s every bit a first round prospect.

Time for a dubious back injury?

The point I'm making is that his own club doesn't value him as a superstar of the competition.

Yet St Kilda wants to make him the highest paid player in the competition.

And even if you think Saints have say, $2.5mil carry forward "use it or lose it" due to 95% and front ended contracts, even the remaining $10mil or $9.5mil over 7 years is still a lot more than Carlton is offering their own player.
Missed my point.
Carry on.

Honestly at this point I'd rather just take Pick 4 and bid on all the top 10 academy/father-son guys just to really hammer home the point.

This time last year a couple journos had Elwood Peckett as a potential first rounder. He didnt even get drafted

IMO Fincher is at best a mid-second rounder atm but he could easily climb if he gets mid minutes for Metro

LOL!!!

I suspect if this was the set-up prior to draft night the AFL would “collaborate” with the club and announce post draft changes.

We would still fire in a bid or two but it wouldn’t be four or five.

As Richard Nixon famously said, “when you’ve got them by the balls, both their hearts, and minds, will follow”.

None of the draft pundits have him in the top 40 yet...

And rightly so IMO. Fincher gets good numbers but he isn’t damaging enough to be a first rounder. Plenty of others who get less touches but are more impactful

As I said before, I need to see Fincher in the midfield at Champs level for him to really push up

always the way with club-aligned players. tyler welsh, campo twins all hyped as early first rounders before their top-age year, went a lot later.

been hearing forever about how compromised this draft is, yet there's every chance there will be just as many FS/academy players in this year's top 10 as there were last year. and it's significantly harder for clubs to match them now.

band 1/2 free agents are the real killer in terms of blowing out picks, but of course no complaints from us after we got looked after last year.

depending on where we finish TDK/Allen compo could push our open pool pick back a couple of spots - much more harmful than whether or not uwland/annable get taken before our pick
