Seems a lot more sources spreading that one.

No it’s one source and no one else can ask a question until it’s official.

Are we going to pay over $1m a year? Yep.

Is it going to be a flat $1.7m a year? Highly doubt it

Usually you spend big dollars on stars not 19 game fringe dwellers and project rucks. Get us another Nas level player instead.
They tried, multiple times. Dangled the war chest and got nada. I don't believe we're allowed to kidnap players, are we?

So how did we improve the list overall?
We got rid of list cloggers - Battle excepted - and brought in kids.
Of course we’d go backwards.

Assuming more experienced players in TDK, Aleer ( not quite as experienced but still been in the system) come in, and of course assuming we keep NAS, for me, 2026 is the year we must improve.

Doubt there’ll be as much list gutting end of this year because we haven’t got as many to cull as previous years.
Brought in Macrae and had a year of development for the 23 draft kids. Sherman, Keeler, Camma as a fullback.

I’m not gonna keep saying it cause it’s getting tiresome, you can argue we didn’t improve the list as easily as anyone else can argue we did and it’s all subjective.

2025 was the year we MUST improve before the year started so you’re giving it a mulligan, that’s fine, no argument but if you really think people being pissed off about being 4th last are being unreasonable then I think you’re being very very rose glasses wearing

In an even comp, where u really should be a chance almost all weeks, I would say this is a bad as 3 month stretch relative to the talent on the list in the last 15 years.

We have been super disappointing this year.
It’s far from an even competition.
Please - we all know about the unevenness of the fixtures, the differing breaks between games, the huge amount of travel for Collingwood 🙄 -
There’s very little even about it.
We and the Suns were one above the other on the ladder last year. Go back and have a little peek at their fixture in comparison to ours.

Camma has been equal to the Dougal we’ve had and Kings missed a shitload of footy. Pou is still a child.

Again, IM not saying the years been a ****ing bust and Ross should be sacked but to my point for every “oh but x” there’s a “yeh but y”.

If you’re a glass half full guy sure but by your own admission here you shifted the goalposts mid year. As some point we can’t keep doing that.

Could just as easily say Port, Cats and Dees should have beaten us. All 3 games they missed a ridiculous amount of easy shots.

Of the ones we lost, only the Swans game were we really a chance.
We found one down back in Caminiti.

But by the same token we robbed a forward line already missing King of another tall pillar.

Ultimately it won’t matter. It’s been a shit season. But we won’t be as far away as the ladder will show. We need a clean run with injuries and we need to keep getting games into this list.

Sure, fair comment. I think the jury remains out on max, his body seems like it might never stand up to playing afl footy.

If we lose Nas and King goes down again we’re pretty much assured of being in a similar spot next year, I assume you won’t be pushing it to “well 2027 will be our year just you watch”?

I don’t think anyone is unreasonable. People can think what they want.
From my perspective, I’m just saying Im not surprised we are where we are this year. And I think I’m realistic.
We needed 3/4 years of good drafting, and we will have done that by the end of this draft.

Would I like to be better - of course.
Would I like to be finishing in the quicksand of 9-12 spot? No.
Do I hope and expect to have a decent jump next year - absolutely.

Those who think the club has gone downhill since Ross arrived. What would you have done differently?
We had a maxed out salary cap with limited a grade talent and no valuable assets to trade.
Since Ratten left we have turned over half the list with further (and likely final) cuts to happen this offseason.
We have 5 players who at their best, are all Australian level in Wilkie, Sinclair, Higgins, Marshall and Nas.
We have an enormous gap on our list between 23-28 years old but have more talent under 22 than almost every club in the league. We’ve got more cap space to use than any club in the comp.
We are building for a sustained tilt, not a sugar hit. If you can’t see that, you’re only looking for negatives.
Don’t think it’s gone downhill. We’ve made great appointments. Just don’t think SOS was a good choice.
Fitness stuff leaves a bit to be desired. Don’t trust Mission either tbh. I do think our drafting , development and coaching has improved a lot.

I had hoped we’d play finals this year, but watching our struggles without a mature tall ahead of the footy I’m not surprised or disappointed that we’re in the position we are in terms of wins and losses.

What I’ve liked is the last month, and the signs from individuals across the park.

The pressure turns up on Ross and co from next season especially if we land Aleer, TDK, retain Nas and have a healthy Pou and King.

I doubt that we will be in a similar spot in twelve months time, and if we are then I too will share frustrations.

This season seems to have been a perfect storm. Incredibly tough fixture, injuries to players we couldn’t cover and a decline in one of our most important players (Ro).

If we lose Nas, not sure the next 2 years amount to much without getting Butters back.

We have the best football department we've ever had and do heaps right but that doesn't mean you get to coast. Improving the fine details is how you go from okay to a serious club.

Plenty are calling those pissed off with the loss and the year unreasonable. You might not be but plenty are

That's bullshit. It would be catastrophic but other clubs have lost critical players and still stayed competitive.

That's how this club stays uncompetitive. No-one demands any standards other than turning up to the stadium.

I would think we’re capable of a decent jump next year but I don’t think I expect it. I’d be happy with a Fremantle type of season before really breaking out the following year

Anyway, hypothetical for the board.

Rumours are former pick 3, Zane Duursma wants out of north.

Anybody think he is worth whatever we get for Marshall or even our own FRP?

Is he OOC? I hope so--as dealing with Rawlings will be excruciating otherwise.

Didn’t answer the question.

I thought I did by saying they (seasons 2026/2027) wouldn’t amount to much?

It would make the Lyon extension even more bizarre if we lost NAS.

That's bullshit. It would be catastrophic but other clubs have lost critical players and still stayed competitive.
In positions of strength. Sure.

We would be losing our best player in our current state of lost build. Your definitely going back before you go forward in that reality.

He looks a bit meh. Started well but looks a bit of Jack Billings at the moment.
