How in the hell did someone in control think up the Max King contract , and now the TDK offer ? I believe we may have also upped the Josh Battle offer at the last minute too , like absolute amateurs. Withdraw the irresponsible TDK offer , find a Meek , Sweet type “cheap as chips” ruckman. Offer NWM 200,000 more than the others , and go get a youngish gun midfielder with our splash cash.

Which youngish mid that actually wants to come here that we haven’t already spoken to do you want us to go for?

If any player wants to go home, they can go home any time they like.

If they want to make squillions out of being a professional AFL footballer then perhaps they should accept the rules they willingly sign onto.

Its about time the clubs actually became professional and apply the rules the players have agreed to in the CBA.

Otherwise - why bother with rules?
This is similar to all those kids that sign up for a draft in a national competition and then say they dont want to leave their home state.
Play state football then.
If players arent mature enough to leave the family and friends network for a career then the AFL needs to raise the draft age or support players better.
Demanding to only be selected or tanking interviews with interstate suitors should immediately be ineligible for selection imo.

We don't even need a cheap as chips ruckman. We already have a very good one and an outstanding prospect who should be ready when our current ruck is winding down.

But yes, we should absolutely be offering Nas (a generational talent) overs instead of a surplus ruck.

And yep, I'd be throwing money at a Flanders type who is a true mid being denied midfield time. Find the next Jack Steele

What are you on about? King was contracted before his injuries, the club isn't Nostradamus.
While I have reservations about TDK, the logical reasons have been discussed a million times.
Which young mid gun midfielder have we not gone for that won't cost us draft capital.
Your post is all grievance with no solutions.

Their hand was forced with the Max King deal. I think Brisbane offered a monster contract and we had to pony up the cash. Would have been the perfect time to trade him to be fair.

I agree with what you’re saying, but it doesn’t apply. It should, but it doesn’t.

Kings grotesque contract extension came after he tore his PCL in 2024. Missed the last month and a half of that season, signed the extension in October, and hasn’t played since.

That kind of extension was insane, and not needed.

Doesn't take Nostradamus to not extend the contract of a player with history of knee injuries shortly after sustaining a bad knee injury.

King and Wilkie were drafted in the same year. Once is about to play his 150th, and who knows when/if the other's 84th will happen.

Bookmarking all these King doubters for 2029 when he kicks 5 to win us the darn thing
i hope youve already bookmarked those of us last year musing about trading him at full value, ala what we didnt do with clark stuv and those other names that come up & what we are now talking about with Roma and Steele

still love to be proven very very wrong, but 2025 has just bitten the dust for him and i was already blase and seeing the obvious pattern with him in 2024

Except that it doesn’t appear to be about the money.

The board would have had to sign off on it.

Or the AFL needs to abolish the draft, allow all uncontracted players to move clubs freely, and then enforce the salary cap and soft cap properly with public salaries and audits.

Thats rubbish our hand was forced, Max was still contracted for this year and next without the extension
