I'm not so sure. He allegedly just wants to get back to SA. If we can do a really good deal with Crows (maybe a Sid Draper being included etc), he would likely accept that then rather risk going through the PSD. We will look after the Club first. Also, I know it is hard to believe, but Nas actually loves the Club and will want us to be looked after.
people say this, but in reality in never happens

houston got to the team in nonminated ,even though the deal was not the best.

I don’t get the Sid Draper thing, he’s a South Australian, what appeal would we have for him? I get some kids are happy to move away from their home state when drafted but why would the agree to be traded away when they’re highly rated anyway.

Was just an example of a player Crows could offer. Not saying he would be.

Fair, I think we may as well talk about realistic (at least motivated) targets.

Port supporters have howled down Bergman because he just re signed, he makes a lot more sense as an option than Draper imo.

Tobbie Travaglia was the player i hope port drafted (went before our pick), do u guys see him as a winger, inside mid or defender long term?

once Nas started to break out over the last coupla months yes.

Anyway

Hes future obviously is in the air, i wouldn't be so confident, i would be nervous, its getting very late in the year.

I read it recently. Not the case at all. Plenty of delusion still running rampant.

We played Sydney with Gulden etc, there's a reason they've won 6 of their last 7.

Don't forget they played 2 grand finals in the past 3 seasons.

Earlier in the year that's a Saints win

We're 3-2 against the teams who aren't in finals contention.

But it's absolutely nuts that we've played Geelong, Freo and Dogs twice.... and every other good team once... but haven't even played Essendon or North.

That's not excuses, it's an observation that the AFL fixture is just absurd.

Adelaide were bottom 4 last year, we could have had them twice. Freo finished one game and a draw ahead of us. Collingwood 1 win and 2 draws ahead of us and missed the 8. They were in our pool to potentially play twice. Gold Coast were below us.

You just have to win games despite the fixture. Sydney looked like a side you wouldn't want to meet twice a year ago. Now you'd back yourselves to at least push them. Playing Carlton twice this year would be two easy kills. last year they were top 8. Port top 2.

No it doesn't. That's just lazy, surface level analysis

Who were the wins against?

Richmond have lost 7 or 8 floggings by 10 goals+, including one against...St Kilda (their biggest loss of the year). Despite having a far easier fixture.

A fixture equalised analysis says St Kilda is a better team by 2 or 3 wins and 20% or more. That's a huge difference.

Of course, it's possible Richmond finishes the season stronger.

I'm just making the point that no-one can take a fair-minded look at current records, to this point in the season, and suggest Richmond have performed at a "similar" level to St Kilda. That's an assertion that is not founded on anything.

Autotip has us one game out of the bottom 3. Not exactly a ringing endorsement for us being streets ahead. At least Essendon can believe that they were unlucky with injury.

Wiki was 190, honestly not gonna squabble over 3cms… 🧐

That's not what she said.

not a lot of difference between 190 and 193, but it makes a difference when you face someone at say 197cm.

ie 7cm starts to become significant (vs 4) when discussing KPP's

I just dont think it really matters for KPDs. You can say theyre undersized but Zac Dawson was 197 and got ****ing bullied when he started, he filled out and learned to hold his position and became a very very good lockdown defender.

Im not gonna sweat a few centimeters. Modern footy is team defense with intercepts and blocking leading lanes anyway. Short of Sam Darcy and Riley Thilthorpe true monster FFs barely exist anymore

Because playing himdsite with a draft and saying x instead of y especially when the draft is less then two years old is just stupid.

There is context with every decision.

You can pluck up every draft every year and say we should’ve done this , why did we take him.

Also , ‘overachieving’ how do you define overachieving in a draft? Is it bargain picks? Is it getting elite players.

If you blow your first pick but you nail all the others is that overachieving?

It’s just a dumb point.

Why get yourself upset over someone's opinion? Everyone has favourites in the draft, recruiters are judged on their calls good and bad. We all write shit and we will either laugh at this post in 5 years or still be looking about all our missed champions.

It seems insane that people get so upset at other people thinking differently to them.

The club think he can transition into a mid. Looks a HBF to me.

Im
Not upset. I think it’s silly analysis. In particular with the draft it is something that is so much based around things we don’t see. Everyone has opinion on the players. Funnily enough all casuals don’t have accesss to possibly the most important factor. Actually meeting the players. How much do you think that comes into it ?

The fixture is appalling for us year in year out. It affects attendance and hence sponsorship. To play Bulldogs, Geelong and Melbourne twice before playing North and Essendon is ridiculous ....

......however

Just say we had an easy draw. We may, just may, have made finals, but at best 8th. Probably an honourable 9th or 10th.

What that means the kids aren't played as we try for finals. Many of the kids would not be getting games onto them. A stuffed season means lots of debutantes.
Also an 8 to 10 finish means a pick between 13 and 15 instead of pick 7 or 8 that we get.
Yes the draw is shit, but the bright side is a development year.
Bassat is not backward in coming forward and if we know how shit the draw has been, the club would. He will be hammering the AFL for a better fixture next season.
Puts a whole different complexion on the fixture this season, and actually I don’t mind it. Small chance we were ever going to make finals - especially after King and Dougal went down.

Could it be that, quite unwittingly, the AFL have actually done us a favour?

(Although if they have done, please can they not do us the same favour next season. 🤣)

I couldn't disagree more, obviously it depend on other attributes...... but height is a big factor.

Cal Wilkie is evidence no.1, at 191 cm and sub 90kg's he's much better suited to the 3rd forward and not the 200cm monsters.

200cm full forwards are a dime a dozen these days rather than barely existing.

B King
Hipwood
H McKay
P Wright
L Jackson - kicks the winner yesterday, DArcy in ruck
S Neale
M Chol
N Larkey
T Lynch
M King

+ Darcy + Thilthorpe

+ GWS, Swans and Freo run multiple 195cm+ types well.

Missing are Pies, WC, Port and Melbourne only

There are so many money ball players in the VFL and state leagues. Mannagh had the highest game rating of any player apart from Nas yesterday. He was a VFL player a couple of years back too. I wanted us to go after him.

GWS and GC should be looked at as retaining grounds too. I'd love to get Madden out of GWS before TDK.

That may be, but he will be 28 in a month. So you can understand why we went younger in the draft. We went for Collard as a forward instead whom the jury is still very much out on(and then Hastie).

T\However the 4 year younger Max Hall is tracking pretty well for us, playing the same type of role. Our list rebuild looks to be aimed at us having peaking from say 2027 on. Hence also why TDK in now...

We weren’t unlucky with injury to our entire spine, with King, Pou, Howard out basically the whole season?
We couldn’t buy a tall.

Doubt with Horny Francis, Rozee and Butters that there will be much room for him in their midfield.
Hey Debbie , Rozee hasn't been a full time mid of late and Butters maybe out the door so I'm not sure midfield time would be an issue if he was to leave

Of the guys you listed only King (in a stacked team) Jackson (unicorn), Larkey and Thilthorpe are any ****ing good though.

Defense isn’t one out anymore and if it is every advantage is to the forward anyway. We’ve got a tall forward who I watched Aidan Corr work over in a game.

Body work and blocking leading lanes do a shitload lore than having a monster fullback.

Difference of philosophy I suppose

May is listed as 193cm on the AFL and MFC websites

And on Footywire too.

However, more importantly May is built like a brick shithouse and knows how to use it.

Wilkie is a much better player for us when he does not have to play FB. When Howard has played, we have seen Wilkie at his best. Hopefully Wilkie will work well with Aleer too.

Long term is completely unknown.

Lyon will trial him in all 3 and see how he goes.

They would like him to develop into being a mid, but whether or not he will be good enough it that role or not only time will tell. He lack body weight and strength at present to be a full time mid.
