Apologies if someone has already posted this but my mate is at the 40 year + members function and he said that Missen said that we should hear on NAS over the next week. That’s it.

I honestly think we’re all just coping.

If he wanted to stay he would have signed by now. Like what really is another 2/3 weeks going to do lol. He's been here for 4 years.

Firstly, Bontempelli re-signed last week. So he’s not the only person waiting until the last minute.

Secondly, if Nas had signed 6 weeks ago, his value and payday would be significantly less than it is now. Perhaps him and his manager backed him in to have a great year and to up his value through the course of the season (which he’s done). Even if he stays at St Kilda, I’m betting he’s glad he waited until the last possible second.

I assume it’ll get done in the next week or so, if he’s staying. His value isn’t going to get any higher.

Pay Ben Williams out of his agreement with Nas (outside the cap), offer Nas 1.4mil over 8 years and tell him he can have Basset's mansion post football.

I’m genuinely worried about the outcome for St Kilda if Nas does walk, in terms of culture and belief for the club. We’re already seeing a lack of fans turning up game day, I don’t see that improving in the future if we lose Nas.

You could make the argument that other teams have gone through the same outcome of a marquee player walking (for less than they are worth) however, in terms of team list, ladder and perception of the team is wildly different.

Smith goes, doesn’t play for the whole year to soften to blow and Dogs still have genuine proven players around the ground with marquee players in the forward and midfield. Cameron goes, still have Greene, Kelly, Whitfield and an array of first round draft picks to soften the blow. Danger goes, they had just played finals with a bunch of genuine players still on list, strong club and more depth than what we’ve got, they played finals two years later?

Obviously, all teams get hit hard. I think this situation will send shockwaves for the culture for longer than the above teams.

Until it happens, we wait and play it as best as possible I suppose.

Surely if Misson indicates we will hear something within a week that suggests Nas is staying. If he was leaving, we wouldn't hear until post season. I imagine they're just ironing out the finer details now.

Given misson is responsible for reporting our injury list I wouldn’t trust his one week estimation.

I think you aren’t accounting for significant context to this and yes I may very well be looking into it.

But this is a significant member event with our most loyal. There is only going to be one question everyone wants to know.

So I think that’s genuine that the tipping point is coming.

Yep,

If either club wants him they can stump up basically all of the picks GC are holding this year, who mind you do not actually need them and need to get rid of them.

Losing Nas would be utterly devastating but having Picks 5, 8, 11, 15, 18 (if Ro/Steele goes) is at least the foundations of a rebuild. Just would have wished it was in a stronger draft.

I’d drive him to the airport for that deal.
