I legit wasn't aware of that

Brings some comfort

As I think he's an injury bust tbh
Max will be fine.

Just had a bad run.

my god. is your reading comprehension that bad or are you deliberately being obtuse. you know the offer aint 14m over 7 years.

they're offering 2-2.4m a year for the first two years.

we have offered 1.4m a year for the first two years.
Well like gringo you are incapable of understanding the basic premise of what Riley Beveridge was saying that NAZ was worth 2 millions year, not front loaded but 2 million a year.
I know you are a bit light on for financial nous but that means offering 7 years would ne 14 million.
Nobody is offering that. It is made up.by other clubs that is the point.
Sheesh🙄

I can’t remember who said it, but someone said that basically all the long term contracts are fake. Nothing more than a handshake agreement, because the AFL won’t sign off them officially.
That’s right. I heard it as well. A few days ago.

Fox Footy I think. The Midweek Tackle or whatever it is called.

The AFL only signs off on the part of contract that officially forms part of the salary cap. This does NOT include anything that is optionally agreed to in advance or needs to be triggered.

Not sure how that stands up as a matter of industrial law. I think it is legal to insert optional clauses into contracts regardless of whether the AFL accepts them under their own salary cap rules.

Presumably an option exercised on a contract, or a trigger activating an extension to a contract, becomes a new discreet contract. It is then signed off by the AFL as part of the salary cap.

It’s why Agents and clubs are using them. But experts on industrial law will know more than me.

100%

not sure why Joff has decided to go down this path lately. one moment he's unhappy with the clubs position and is offering criticism of it. the next he's trying to shout down anyone who dare criticise it. its bizarre.
Because they are two different points FFS.
1. I Believe we should match the 2 over 2cyears
2. Beveridge reckons he is worth that over the course of a long term contract so 7 years would cost 14 million.

Why is this so difficult for you people to understand?

You weren’t aware of it, because it’s seemingly not true.

“Until at least 2032”

It’s a nice cope, though.
Are we taking reports from the club’s media department as gospel now are we?

That’s an interesting turn of events.

All we have for info is the media, ITK’s, and gut feel.

My gut feel is that although NAS wants to go home, he would feel that he has some unfinished business here. I say he’ll sign a 2 year deal with a 2 year option. If we’re close to a flag at the end of 2027, then he’ll excercise the option and stay till end of 2029 when he hits free agency. Once he hits free agency then he’ll go home for the rest of his career regardless of whether we’re close to a flag or not.

Not quite.

The rumor mill is that Port is now open to $2m every year, for 7. That is $14m but thats also just Riley Beveridge and seems like some degree of conjecture. By all means dont believe it, but hes not mincing words, hes pretty clear.

The more "known" element is that Port has front loaded their offer for the first 2 years and that were not close to their first two years.

They have the location advantage so us trying to play the "well our offer is better for long term" isnt really relevant to Nas and his manager. He ONLY wants 2 years from us for now, so we really do need to compare our two years with theirs.

You might not like it but thats how Nas and his manager will be seeing it and that who we have to appease (or accept that were gonna stand firm and probably lose him)

Yes he has

10 years @ 17mill will be announced next Tuesday
Wrong some random clubs said he was worth 2 mill a year so it is 10 years x 2 mill because Riley Beveridge said so.
Unfortunately the rest of the team will be made up from Sandy Zebra's and Ammo's.

We get picky with sources when they support or oppose our position.

If youre onboard with $2m for 2 years then i dont really get why your mad about this?

Don't agree that Beveridge said Port will offer 7 x2 mill.
What he said was 'other list managers' ( or words to that extent) that he was worth 2 mill a year.
He said Port were all in.
If they have offered 7 x 2 million, the conversation is over. However I believe it is front end loaded and it is nowhere near 2 x 7.
We really shouldn't match that, its a bit like Carlton matching the TDK offer. We just couldn't.

The second part is spot on. If they want 2 years from us, we have to match the front loaded Port offer. Have not argued anything less.

Yeh I don’t think he said what you think he said but it’s a bit of a moot point anyway.

The second bit is all that really matters

based on the sentiment in this thread if NAS goes this is going to blow up massively.

there is absolutely no way SOS can spend a minute more at the club.

TBH i'd be asking why the executive at the club didn't step in. any offer above X amount has to be ticked off by the president so if he's not asking for it to be increased and oversees this mess. i think he needs to go as well.
Correct, any half reasonable executive (that includes Ross as he oversees SOS) would’ve stepped in by now and ensured everything at all costs is thrown Nas way even if that means the 2m/year for two years.

Losing Nas right now is the worst case scenario here so the 2m/year across two years really pales in comparison.

But, watch all the mental gymnastics around cap management, when as you’ve rightfully pointed out we’ve thrown unnecessary money or extensions towards b-grade talent (e.g., TDK amongst other FAs, Clark, King, Collard, etc).

Sends a deplorable message in terms of not taking care of our own.

I am not, I am saying other clubs not involved in the chase can say whatever they like to try and Max out a clubs sc.

Would you pay him 14 mill over 7 years? I am comfortable with 2 x 2mill. Not sure about the long term.
Maybe Hutchinson is correct.

That's really all we know.
1. Manager said prepare a two year deal
2. Port reported to front load 2 mill first two years.
Brings us to we should match considering point no.1
