Twomey on Gettable mentioned we'd be a good fit for Treloar if he's not offered a contract by Bulldogs
They also said:
  • they were very intrigued by Motlop still being unsigned
  • we had a go at Reeves but likely to extend at Hawthorn
  • Reidy will be at Carlton
  • Florent likely staying at Swans
  • Rosas most likely Tiges or Swans

Depends what we call role players I guess. I would be spewing if Chesser, Pert, Buku are getting offered close to half of what those guys would be getting paid. All those three were good AFL level players, our targets seem to be no different to most of our failed punts in the past.
I would be looking for regular best 22 role players.

Khamis has played 31 games in the last 2 seasons so not far off - but the other fall into the depth/punt category rather than role player category.

Motlop being unsigned is intriguing - played all 23 and had pretty much career best numbers across the board and is one our few players who has some pace and can hit a target - which is what we are looking to recruit.

I'd imagine we are just working through his re-signing, or maybe we are looking to trade?

I assume exit interviews are continuing this week

Kid might think he is worth more than we do. Has. “healthy” dose of ego and was a regular through the season. Can see us offering a small rise while he wants “premium” money. Our dearth if small forwards perception probably leads his manager to believe they have the chips to negotiate with. We are resetting, and doubt he will be overpaid.

Hard to see Motlop having much value on the open market, is a below average small forward who has shown glimpses that he could end up a midfielder, the type of players clubs take a chance on as a DFA but not something they will actively recruit or trade for.

His manager is probably just negotiating terms and tenure, i would be disappointed if we offered him more than 2 years, perhaps with some trigger clauses..

I have said it few times now - last year Adelaide got Cumming, Peatling & Neale Bullen.

Not saying I wouldn't be throwing all our compo picks at Port for Butters but if we can get some role AFL level role players with speed and footskills we can be back in finals.
They did it well. ANB is what we need on the HFF.
The only pitfall we have is the FA space and diluting our compo. Lack of draft capital as we stand and Dean & Ison on the hook.
‘26 we hopefully can bring in multiple FA’s + CW (if allowed).

Hey Carlton board folk. I come with peace and love.

Do you fine lads and ladies even want Chesser on your list with his history, not factoring in the trade price? I'm coming at it from a list spot perspective.
As was discussed on the previous page, finally showed a little bit but has been wrecked with injury since drafting and lost those crucial development years.

Cheers. Have a good day all.

What are the injuries? I think I saw he had a serious ankle injury?

He has the attributes Carlton desperately lack which is pace and kicking skills. Our team badly lacks the ability to run with the football and run opposition players down and to a lesser extent, but not too lesser, it lacks really good kicks.

I think he is a good fit for Carlton and I think his value will be similar to Elijah Holland's. Former early picks who are still young, look AFL quality but have had issues holding them back.

Hi mate.

It was pretty much the same ankle injury that has plagued him since early up, so after the umpteenth setback with it they finally bit the bullet and put him under the knife after yet another flare up quite late in pre season this season. It was met with somewhat disbelief at the timing by our fans, but it looks like it may well have worked out for the best as we eventually saw the first green chutes of in our last four weeks.

He's still an extremely inexperienced footballer because of all the time off he's had. Those seasons he should have been growing and growing and by now be an emerging senior player, and he's just not. It feels like for all intents and purposes he's a rookie finishing his first season.

He could really kick on here. If he wants out this could be a genuine steal with little risk, if he chooses to take it.
I hope he stays but he was possible delist bait until the end there. It felt at the time like his selection was a last chance saloon low percentage shot which came off for him. Good on him.

I also think Carlton is a good fit if he chose to leave.

Jack Petruccelle is free though?
Maybe you'd like Matt Owies back?

Word on the street is that he is on pretty decent money from the extension he signed a while ago.

He might be looking at a pay cut from us, so it would be smart for him to test the market.

Essendon offering Zac bailey 6 years at 1.3 million

Injury prone players who spend more time in the sick bay than on the training track is what we specialise in down at Princes Park.

So after TDK and Jsos compo we might have the following draft picks:

9-25-34-44-62

Factoring in academy picks as well.
I don't think Elijah Hollands will be nothing either, still contracted so a draft pick or a player will be incoming. McGovern could be involved in a trade as well.

That is actually a pretty good hand. I would love to think that we could have a big crack at a good quick mid like Butters. Can't help but feel we are a chance and have the currency. If Port know he is leaving at the end of next season as a free agent then it may be best for them to trade him as they get a known currency and probably get more from us than they will as compensation. IMO Butters and Smith are the missing pieces of our side. Pace and skill in the middle and we go from a side that is too slow and poor kicking with an outdated game plan to a side which will and should be playing finals.

Butters, Dean, Chesser, Hogg and a couple of others, I would be really happy with that. Cody Walker the following season. Young players Smith, Wilson, Cowan, Carroll, Camporeale, O'Farrell, Charleson, Moir etc coming on then we draft another Walker. Getting Kemp, Walsh and Cerra fit should be good as well. Keep Curnow and McKay, with a midfield like that we are going to need someone to kick to because it's going to be coming in in a completly different way.

If we can pull it off and add it to the mature talent we already have, improve our coaching, we are looking like a really good modern footy side with good skills and pace.

Newman Weitering Wilson
Cowan Dean Carroll
Haynes Cripps Chesser
Smith Curnow Williams
Moir McKay Kemp
O'Keefe Butters Walsh
Saad Hollands Cerra Hewett
Williams
Motlop O'Farrell, Charleson Acres Camporeale White Lord Evans Young Young Cottrell Hogg Pittonet Durdin

To me that is a very very good side and it's a strong list that should not just be making finals but pushing the top 4. A little weakness at half back but the run and the structure is great, it looks a modern football side, we just need to be able to pull it off and we will be right back in the premiership race next season.

Ah ok, that sort of injury doesn't really bother me. Ankles can be an issue but they aren't often career ending and if surgery works then it works. He looked to be moving really well at the end of the season so I am happy with what I see. It's not like he is someone who has had reoccuring soft tussue, knee or shoulder injures so yes, I would not be worring about his injury history. From watching a bit of video, he is exactly what Carlton should be after and is the prototype modern AFL player who fits into the game post anti-congestion rules.

Now what do the Eagles want. We have McGovern and Hollands outgoing. I would think his value is similar to Hollands. Both former high picks and both have had various reasons why they have not made in the AFL yet. Both look like AFL quality players though. However both have a risk factor.

You guys have a few players I can see doing really well at other clubs. Being a weak side, it's hard to get the most out of some types. Liam Ryan in a strong or at least above average side, get him fit he could be a good player again. Particularly when there are big forwards to take the attention away.

Owies was a handy player when we had a strong midfield feeding our forwards and all the attention went to Curnow and McKay, he doesn't get that luxury at the Eagles currently. Owies did kick a lot of goals for us and played like a medium forward, he gave us that 3rd or 4th marking option which we really lacked this season. Losing Kemp and Moir taking a little bit to come on, McKay and Curnow missing a lot of games or playing underdone, offloading Martin, we really lacked that medium forward so he would have been handy this season but I think we have moved past him.

Jack Petruccelle we are probably looking at him for a small forward role. He matches a few types we have been recruiting like White and Young and maybe we see him as a potential upgrade on them. Could be another sort who needs to be in a strong side to perform as most forwards do. We are a bit weak with our smaller forwards. Delisted Fantasia. I can see why we might be looking at him. Rumoure is he will be doing a preseason with us and I suspect we will leave a list spot open. I think let him train with us and then make a decision. If he fits into our side and plays well then so be it, give him a list spot.

Annoys me that we can lose TDK on an offer almost twice what it would take to get a band 1 pick but it doesn't impact the JSOS compo and our compo would still be diluted if we picked up a fringe player as a free agent

Salary cap rise in a couple of seasons, up 3mill, so to offer someone like Butters 1.5+mill a year to entice him out of PA would be minimum chips. Only 26 next year so plenty of football to come.

He is a hard working footballer which is exactly what we need, someone who could raise team work ethics and standards
