Agree, they are playing ducks and drakes - it’s a very immature approach to player movement that inevitably will change at some point. In the meantime, the charade continues.
FWIW, I think there’s still a big chance Charlie is traded.
I think your right, it all has the look and feel of him not coming back. There is plenty of ways of getting a deal done via multiple clubs. Seems a lot of players across the comp up for a move and plenty of highend picks happy to be traded around by the sounds of things.

Just don't say anything then? We now know that Curnow's word is worthless given he essentially asked for a trade. As is Voss'/the club's if they trade him after coming out and staunchly saying he'll be here. The whole thing is just bizarre to me.
But according to reports, he hasn't outright asked. He said he's "open to a move". Big difference to "get me outta here" which is now being reported.

Could've gone either way.
My guess is that the board would've sacked Voss but gave GW the call..?
Wright's call put a few Players noses out of joint ... who were hoping he was gone.
Not unlike quite a few around here...

*added
Which players noses were put out..?

The whole of club of buy-in seems a good result..

The announcements about Charlie staying are like the Prez coming out and saying that the embattled Coach has the full support of the board ... I guess if the right offer comes along..?
Will be an interesting trade period, deal might end up getting done

Also Ryan Burton on a free signing would be handy

But Vossy kept his job so wasn’t the prez right?

How?

The first time was in the rooms after the hawthorn game, where he is contractually obliged to talk to the media post game if they ask for him. After that interview, his knee injury that he’s carried all year suddenly needed surgery and he didn’t play again, thus avoiding the media. Yes, the season was over but that point, so the surgery made sense, but not having to do media was a nice little bonus.

The second time, he was door stopped after cleaning out his locker. Came in a couple of days before his interview to do it to try to avoid the media.

What’s he supposed to say?
No comment : Charlie refuses to confirm his future.
There’s always speculation, but I’m a Carlton player : Charlie leaves the door open to a trade.
I’m contracted, any discussions around that is handled by my manager : Charlie’s management exploring his options.

Charlie doesn’t seem like a natural media performer, and apparently wants out of the bubble. Trying his best to avoid being asked, but the two times he couldn’t avoid it he’s tried to cut the journalist off with denial.

Look, I love Charlie. When he’s on, he is box office. But the way this is all playing out it’s pretty clear that he’s keen to move. He knows it’s almost impossible to do given his value, so he has to say he’s staying. When he says he’ll be playing here next year, he knows it’s probably true, right up until it isn’t.

If the trade does somehow eventuate, he’ll do a quick interview at a presser for the new club, and he’ll say that while he loved the club, there was a lot of pressure on him externally and he needed a fresh start to fall in love with footy again, wishes the club all the best etc… One interview and the media will move on, just like Dan Houston.

If it doesn’t eventuate, he will get door stopped walking in to training and say, “told you I wasn’t leaving”.

I’m not trying to single anyone out here, and I really get that people are passionate about it all, but this insistence that one side is lying about something is just a bit simplistic. It’s a complicated situation. No one really know how it will pan out - not Charlie, not the club, not his management, not us as fans. There’s a lot of possible outcomes, and wed all like to know how it will end, but right now it’s a moving target.

I’m prepared for him to go, I’m prepared for him to stay. I enjoy speculating about what the trade will be, if it happens. But I don’t think there’s much value in all the denigrating of Charlie, his manager, the club, the list manager… everyone’s trying to resolve a complicated situation and achieve the best outcome.

Apologies for the long post, I didn’t have time to write a short one.

I dont see much difference to be honest, it sounds like a player who knows he has a long term deal has asked the club to be traded and has been told no.

The messaging that has come out is just trying to massage that information to make it more palatable

Regardless of what is said unless there is a very good deal in our favour it will not happen.
A below quality draft & the reluctance of teams offering a quality player makes it unlikely.

IMO, CC needs to grow TFU and start behaving like a leader and someone invested in the club, as the club has invested in him.

@ 6:28 BANG -

"as a senior player..I was hoping we were going to top up on talent and build on the prelim.. get some senior bodies to add - and we ended up getting Jagger Smith..."

It all boils down to where the Club decided to invest and the messages that gave the senior players regarding where the Club thought the playing list was at...

Some senior players ( including Docherty) wanted more senior players - the Club decided yeah naahhh.

Don't worry guys, we're getting Reidy, Buku and Chesser.

The goal is to win our first VFL title first and then after that go for the AFL title. It's called a Carlton style reset with small incremental goals.
I’d think we’d fill some depth needs with.
Trade
Buku
Fritsch
Chesser

DFA
Petrucelle
Blight

Draft
Best Available
Dean
Ison
Riley/Harding

Gresham (CatB)

Reidy - seriously WTF Carlton

If we trade Curnow then we can go for an elite player.
