If they’re giving us Neale - we better be getting multiple first round draft picks too
Shannon has started to show consistent form this season, think along the lines of the Kennedy/Judd swap.
So yes there would have to be more than just Shannon but posters on here have been naming Holmes, who is older and someone we could use but could also find elsewhere. Young Forwards not so much.
Reason for suggesting Shannon, big body like Thilthorpe, takes a contested mark and has good leading patterns.

"as a senior player..I was hoping we were going to top up on talent and build on the prelim.. get some senior bodies to add - and we ended up getting Jagger Smith..."

It all boils down to where the Club decided to invest and the messages that gave the senior players regarding where the Club thought the playing list was at...

Some senior players ( including Docherty) wanted more senior players - the Club decided yeah naahhh.
I don’t see how Austin and team survive after the draft.

We have Collingwood with space last year to spend about $1.7M on two players, as well as Shultz the year before.

We have the premiers about to sign a free agent for $1M and possibly Draper and linked to Ridley

The Hawks have a heap to burn

The cats heavily linked to Marshal

The Dogs offering over $1M for Wilkie

It’s an absolute šŸ’© show, two years in a row we added F all to the list. I’ve said it many times, the club over corrected from the reckless SOS and went with a roll over with no gumption

Holmes is actually younger than Neale.

Maybe Doc should have spent the offseason practicing his skills instead of worrying about our recruiting.

If you were Port, would you trade Butters for two first rounders in a shallow draft?

million to one.
Don’t have to be both this year.

If he leaves as a FA next year, the best they can get is one first rounder straight after where they finish on the ladder.

Two firsts starting to look better if they are accepting he will leave.

They’ve already offered him a massive deal. If he tries to go FA Port will match

Not if someone offered $2.5-3m for one season. That gets him through to unrestricted status and can walk the following year. Port won’t pay that for one guaranteed season.

The new club will if followed by 5 years at about $1.1m, making it effectively a 6 year contract for $8m

AFL rules against that after Daniher

Ok, then he is coming to the Blues for ā€œlifestyleā€ reasons.

The AFL has already signed off on those type of deals

Clubs are likely forced to include in their contracts by the (PA).

The increase in cap then means **** all, if you are wanting to attract players or use it to keep players. It’s soaked up by your existing contracted players.

Any player payments for the growth of the game, should be between the AFL and the players. Not clubs salary cap.
They’re not forced to do it. And not every player has it.

It’s part of contract negotiation. The player managers/agents AND the club hold equal responsibility here.

Any chance we let Charlie go to Swans, they send 2 first rounders to Port and we get Butters?
Curnow to Sydney
Warner and Pick 9 (Syd) to WC
Pick 1 (WC) and Pick 11 (WC) to Port
Butters to Carlton

All picks are those currently held. Compo picks haven't been allocated yet.

I don’t understand what you’re saying?

They allowed the dodgey Daniher move, and then closed the loophole.
So he takes a massive pay cut for a 1 year contract next year, then has to stay at Port when they match, that drops him out of their top 25% and they get no compensation when he leaves as an unrestricted FA at the end of it.

He justifies the lower contract offered by us as "lifestyle" reasons for moving like they all do at the Cats and bingo, problem solved. Port now have the option of taking 2 first rounders for him to leave straight away or they get nothing for him later.

Wilson has signed for ā€˜26.
Durdin is as well from years ago.
Can’t see L.Young going anywhere, valuable backup.

Or they wait until they get pick 2 then swap that with GCS for pick 6 and 12/15.

I actually totally agree with Doc and the way JSOS played as a defender this season probably adds abit of weight to it.
The problem was that Houston was the wrong target; if it was someone like Zac Bailey then I 100% think we should have been topping up.
A spine of Weitering, 2025 version of JSOS, McKay and Weitering is incredible. Walsh and Cripps coming off a Brownlow with someone like Bailey added in could have been elite.
Acres was brilliant the year before and Hollands you would hope would improve. A forward 50 of inform McKay, Curnow, Williams, Cottrell, E Hollands, Bailey and maybe Moir could’ve caused nightmares for opposition backlines.

I feel for our current players - even the ones departed. Not there fault standards weren’t set and alignment wasn’t set throughout the whole club. This is on everyone running the football department. Just an embarrassing club and you cannot blame anyone wanting to jump off. They don’t believe and aren’t willing to waste anymore their time in waiting.
Watching other clubs like Collingwood and Geelong playing finals makes me want to 🤮.
We were them once. The envy of the competition!!
