Sorry DD, I might have missed it, but is this "itk" talk or just general talk here on the board?
To have a good idea with cost you’d need a good idea of who might pick him. Who do you see as placing a bid? I don’t see WC bidding at 1 and 2, I don’t see Richmond bidding at 3 and 4 or ESS at 5 and 6, that leaves Saints and Hawks to worry about.Moving ahead of a Dean bid will be very expensive.
Given we already spent a lot last year to get Jagga, and will (it’s looking extremely likely) now have to spend a lot to get Cody next year, I just don’t think we have enough currency that it would be a sensible decision.
We will also still need points for Dean, and now likely Ison.
It doesn’t add up.

Obviously just guessing based on media talk re their contracts but...Is it that much? 2 gets Petracca and change, have a crack at Butters next year, 17 covers Dean points after sliding back and F1 along with your F1 probably covers Walker next year.

Yep. Don’t want another Gov contract.Overpaying is the issue, buying a player in an inflated market sets a precedent for the rest of the group and new recruits moving forward.
In the case of TDK I saw us offering probably $100,00-$200,000 more than market value and the Daints offering $600,000-$800,000 more than his value, * supposedly offering Bailey over $1M and I’m sure King will be offered a stack.
It doesn’t seem like good business to me unless you are adding a final piece player.
100%. And these 'final pieces' should only be added if you are finals bound.Overpaying is the issue, buying a player in an inflated market sets a precedent for the rest of the group and new recruits moving forward.

Hey fellas and ladies, in the hypothetical event that Curnow leaves, is this trade palatable for Blues posters?
CARL OUT: Curnow, 10
CARL IN: 2, 17, F1 (GCS), Chesser
*noting you’d either trade 17 for another F1 or split it again for Dean points.
Counter-offer specifically for West Coast: Sydney's pick 11, Acres, McGovern, our F2 for 2 and Chesser?Hey fellas and ladies, in the hypothetical event that Curnow leaves, is this trade palatable for Blues posters?

Mason Cox at Carlton…..yes, yes there is something WWT.NTTAWWT
I think we end up targeting pick 2 either via a trade with the Suns or Sydney for their picks for Curnow.Politely decline that one. Acres and McGovern don’t move the needle so pick 11 and your F2 for 2 and Chesser isn’t something I’d be keen on.
Chesser’s value is going to be an interesting watch, have a feeling it’s going to end up involving more clubs than just ours.
Curnow on his way to Sydney you think? FFS don’t send him to the Cats.

Flanders will allow them to orchestrate a 3 way deal id imagine, then we probably include Gov, Acres or Hollands in that for 2 and Chesser coming back.
Don't mind it... Chuck in Malcolm Rosas or Budarick as some small fwd depth and I could see it getting close. This is the grand plan:
WCE OUT: 2,17,21,24,35, Chesser, Ryan
WCE IN: 7,8,10, Davies, F2 (STK)
GCS OUT: 7, F1, Flanders, Davies
GCS IN: Curnow, 21,24,35
CARL OUT: Curnow, 10
CARL IN: 2, 17, F1 (GCS), Chesser
STK OUT: 8, F2 (STK)
STK IN: Flanders, Ryan
Think it suits everyone’s needs but the crucial part is how badly GCS want Curnow. Saints get their targets, Blues get well compensated and a 2nd F1 for Walker, GCS get their man and the points they need for their academy kids.
I really hope our idiot list manager doesn’t chase Acres and Gov jnr
Most of them. How many sporting leagues around the world allow you to trade contracted players without consent?

Out of curiosity, how would you see it getting done if it were Sydney rather than the Suns involved between the three of us? Have found that one a bit more difficult to envision thus far.
Very few no trade clauses in the NBA, maybe Le Bron and that's about it.Yep they’re the only ones I know of, it also says in relation to these leagues that players can have no trade clauses put in their contracts.
So say it got up in the AFL, what would stop players who were drafted to a club in their home state, refusing to sign an extension unless they had a no trade clause inserted?
I also don’t see this happening here fwiw
This is truly horrible for Carlton.TBF I think GCS are the club who could push for more in that deal. Swans deal is simple if they want to win a flag. They send us Chad and Corey Warner, Curnow and your F2 go to Swans then pick 2, Chesser and Swans F1 to Carlton. Probably needs to be balanced with a couple of late 2Rs to Sydney to help with their academy matching. Something like:
SYD OUT: Warner Bros, F1
SYD IN: Curnow, Pick 33, 35, F2 (CARL)
CARL OUT: Curnow, Pick 35, F2 (CARL)
CARL IN: Pick 2, Swans F1, Chesser
WCE OUT: Pick 2, Pick 33, Chesser
WCE IN: Warner Bros
It does seem like it. If it was the 2026 draft pick 2 would be worth about double what it is in this draft, Walker + one of Cochrane or Butler would be an utterly absurd pairing to pick up in one draft. This is truly horrible for Carlton.
There’s no way we would do it.

How would we get the currency to get both?It does seem like it. If it was the 2026 draft pick 2 would be worth about double what it is in this draft, Walker + one of Cochrane or Butler would be an utterly absurd pairing to pick up in one draft.
That would be a better deal, but is still a terrible trade for us.Look our swap is essentially with the swans, which I think looks about right.
Carlton have every right to value Curnow exactly where they want to but as a neutral I’d be genuinely surprised if the media and industry thought that was a bad deal for Carlton.
Would it change anything if we sent our F1 to Sydney instead of pick 2? That might be Dougie Cochrane.
We wouldn't. I'm just saying the top of this draft class simply isn't of the same caliber of others so I don't think we'd let Curnow go for essentially just pick 2 this year. Next year would be a different story. How would we get the currency to get both?
Eagles F1 would be spent on Cody.
But back to a trade this year, we can’t trade Charlie in a deal where picks end up being the major component at the end of trade week.
That would be a better deal, but is still a terrible trade for us.
Giving up a superstar key forward for picks would be crazy. If we trade him we need a gun/s coming back.
