I think the basic thing I'd be looking for in a Curnow Trade is that if you're giving up something exceptional then I want something exceptional back in return, not just picks. For me the Suns would still be the best target.

Blues Get: Ethan Reid, Pick 7 & Pick 8
Suns Get: Charlie Curnow, Pick 10 & Pick 22

Chuck a seven year deal at $1.2m/season and see if you can create a stir in the chook house. The interesting thing about this proposal is that it probably wouldn't affect GC's ability to trade for Trac. Whether they can fit them both into their salary cap is entirely a different conversation.

I'd be looking to get a little more back if trading for Jed Walter as he's yet to really prove himself consistently at AFL level.

Anyone on this board who thinks Wright, Davies & Austin are going to settle for Rowbottom, Hayward or Florent Plus Pick 11 & a F1st is kidding themselves.

Thoughts.

A $1.2 million deal for Ethan Reid? Seven years? Really?

SOS -I don’t like paying over the top for unproven talent. Shouldn’t you be on the St Kilda board😉

I’m not sure I really why this is an exceptional deal as versus the Sydney one you think isn’t adequate.

Your deal is Curnow for Ethan Read and two upgrades on our first round picks. The pick upgrades amount to the equivalent of pick 14. That would make it almost impossible for them to bring in the academy kids they already don’t have enough points for which certainly impacts their trade for Petracca.

It values Curnow at Read plus pick 14. Pick 14 is slightly worse than pick 11 from Sydney. So is Read worth substantially more than a future first and Hayward? I’m not sure he is, but I am sure he’s not worth 1.2 million yet.

Then it leaves us with picks 7 & 8, but nothing else of note. We have to match bids on Dean and Ison, so one of those will need to be turned into points, let’s say 8 covers them both. So we’re left with pick 7. Is the goal to get someone before Dean? It’s in a risky spot given where a bid could come. Or do we move it to next year for points for Cody, as your scenario doesn’t give us points for next year.

If we take the swan deal, we’d have 10,11,22 and a future first. Gives us a genuine option to trade up if we want to, while covering bids and holding a future 1st for Cody. 10 and 11 could target 6 and 21/27 from * for instance.

So overall:
Read, Dean, Ison and pick 7/F1 or
Hayward, Dean, Ison, Pick 6 and 2 x F1s

Has read got more upside than Hayward? Probably. He is younger, and can play key forward or ruck. But Hayward probably fits needs better, and would cost significantly less coin.

It’s all a bit moot anyway, as Goldcoast won’t let him go, and they can’t afford to bring him in alongside Petracca and all their academy picks. JUH is their fallback option.

FWIW, I think that if Sydney do make an offer, it’s likely slightly better than that - they will either swap some picks to upgrade the F1, or add in another later pick for next year. We’re tight enough with list spots that we probably don’t need anything more this year, either picks or players.

Newman, Weiters, Cowan
Florent, Haynes, Hollands
Chesser, Cripps, E Hollands
Ainsworth, Kemp, Williams
Motlop, Harry, Hayward
R - Pittonet, Walsh, Cerra
I - Jagga, Hewett, Carroll, Cotterell, HOK

This side looks more balanced than 2025 but does lack a little star power unless Cripps and Walsh can return to their best.

And you dont have Carroll or Lord in the side. Wilson and the Campo boys also. Good competition for spots although we need another KPF and KPD

Also Moir who will be important as a 3rd tall without Charlie, and Zac Williams who should replace Motlop.

Dean is the KPD, we just need to give him time.

Which Walsh is on the wing?
And which Walsh is in the centre square?
Asking for a mate.

2 x Cotters (and the Walsh double-up already noted).

Ben Ainsworth a lock .....nice trade
Chesser had some mixed reviews how good he actually might be or could be...might need some work if Acres is back fit and pain free he's solid b grade as Ainsworth

So if Charlie goes (highly likely now) and Harry gets injured or knocked out (somewhat likely), who is the main target? Kemp? Lol

The main target will be the player making the best lead or creating space with hard running, not some pre-determined superstar who must be fed the ball regardless of whether he’s done the work to make position.

What skills have we shown that we could kick it to a player on the lead?

To be fair, not much, but we have looked better in “lower the eyes” mode than blindly bomb it to the big fellas, imo.
