So now we have Defenders, Rucks, and Forwards coming out our proverbials, and no elite disposal mids, and we want YET ANOTHER Small Forward?

It's a bit naïve to think we're going to get an elite disposal midfielder as a train on player in the pre season

Yeah I probably picked the wrong post to mention my latest gripe, but the fact remains, we are going after more of the same when we have clear deficiencies. Hoping one of the Campos, Jagga or Ison have very good disposal because we have a bunch of chuggas in the guts right now.

I'd imagine that's why we targeted Ben Ainsworth and gave Elijah one last chance. Both push high up the ground to stoppage t essentially play as extra mids and both have fantastic disposal. Add Williams and Moir as rotations and there's a chance this issue isn't as pronounced as previous years.

From watching him play in all reserves games last year, i think he is still a some way off being given a rookie spot…

I like his athleticism and general tap work but he is still very raw, a little infront of Mirkov when delisted…

Hope he really comes on this year, would then be worthy of a rookie spot…

Fair enough, although i see him a little infront of Mirkov, i should have mentioned that he does seem to have more upside as a player generally & long term…

He is already worthy of a rookie spot. Clubs including us are just tight for spots these days. Doesn’t pay to spend multiple years developing a young ruck only to miss out when he matures enough to be a factor at top level.

I will have no problem if the club adds him in the SSP period. He has already attracted attention around the competition, another (likely) step up this season will increase the risk of another club “poaching” him.

O’Keeffe has clearly been earmarked as a KPF, pinch hitting in the ruck, suggesting a third ruck on the list would be a good move. The tenure of Lewis Young will be seriously considered at the end of the coming season. Will we keep LY as back up at both ends and in the ruck? If no, we need multiple options going forward. It would be galling to spend three years having Riley develop around the top team, only to have to reinvent the wheel if he is taken elsewhere.

Ison has exceptional ball use. Great at picking out targets, especially inside 50s.

Jagga is an excellent decision maker, but more along the Walsh neat disposal style than laser sharp delivery.

I get why they traded Reidy ahead of him. Pittonet was virtually one out given the decision to play O’Keeffe forward first. We had to have a durable , ready to go option, and didn’t have the draft capital to chase established types. While he has been admirable, Riley’s performances have been a taste only. He is in the same age bracket as HOK, realistically we should not have him ready for consistent top level footy until at least 2027.

We are trying to “modernise” the list on the run and need every draft pick we can get. Clearly the Wright way is coming to the fore with our list management. Making do with solid talls, rather than reaching for high risk, high reward project types. While we are searching for value small/medium small types up forward. We have added Hayward and Ainsworth who will become forward staples to largely right the ship. We seem to be still more hopeful than confident with Motlop. The delay re-signing Frankie shows a lack of confidence there. Delisting White suggests we see him as a bloke who gets the very best out of himself, but perhaps has a low ceiling. I am a little surprised we have persisted with Flynn Young whi is a couple of years older. Flynn has some spectacular skills in areas we are lacking, but struggled at times with the step up, he is clearly seen as a chance of elevating his game with an AFL pre season. Young is also more versatile in regard to roles. The interesting part is that he will enter next season as a 24yo still in a formative phase. White at 21 has been deemed more expendable, despite an absolutely fierce desire to succeed and work ethic.

Walley is regarded as a somewhat stereotypical indigenous talent with questions regarding his commitment for top level footy. His talent has been clearly on show, albeit in spasmodic flashes. Asking him to cross the country for a chance at a spot seems good business. Regardless if he gets the final spot or signs to our VFL program, it is a big commitment for a young fella and a test of his resolve.

One spot is going to be hotly contested it would seem.
The Elijah saga goes on. If he shows real commitment he is a chance, but seemingly has nit started well.
Will White would be deserving on attitude and work rate, he certainly has a viable level of talent as well.
Walley is a young talent, we are clearly considering backing in.
Phillips is a very good defensive interceptor, perhaps lacking in some attributes to expect him to be anything more than depth at the next level. However there is a train of thought that we need that depth.
Riley is a highly promising young ruck who has spent considerable time around the top group for two years now. The ability to sign him cheaply while semi developed is seemingly a bonus.
Sam Paea is also around the group. Young KPP with some spectacular form forward at lower levels, yet was confined to defensive roles in his handful of VFL games last season.

Decisions, decisions!

Looks good at finding space inside 50 - not much in the way of goal kicking highlights though. The way he moves reminds me of Shai Bolton.

I believe we were into Reeves from Hawthorn but that didn’t work out, not sure about any other ruckman but we certainly needed another mature one and landed Reidy…

Walley i read somewhere yesterday that he dealt with a persistent shoulder problem, for most of the year which restricted his throughout his season, i hadn’t heard or read anything about his commitment at all so that may also explain why he went undrafted…

I feel like we need another tall who can play forward, for depth cover seeing that we have virtually none at all, O’Keefe still very young Kemp coming off an Achilles and progressing slowly by reports…

Sam Paea has some talent and flexibility but atm only a VFL level player, Phillips I’m not sold on for a few reasons and I’ve come to the conclusion that Elijah with all his talent will most likely be moved on, White i liked last year hope he hangs around on the reserves list…

Who gets first debut.
I’m picking Dean I know talls need to develop but he looks hard cut has great closing speed has worked with Newman as a mentor.
Next I’d say Taylor small forwards are easier to slot in his pressure and hardness would appeal to vossy one injury to Motts Moir Hes in.
Last ISON I reckon he’s going to be a gun but feel hes still on a steep improvement trajectory.He looks to need to fill out a bit find out how far he can push himself maybe a debut end of the year depending on injuries.
