I think that Goulden of the Swans is the winger that everyone dreams of but what Sidebottom does nearly every game is masterly.

So yeah GW needs to get that message to sign him up as a development coach asap after he finish playing.
Still remember when he kicked 10 from the midfield in the under 18 grand final. Incredible.

Sidebottom is not a fast player but rather a smart player, as a wing he holds his position well. Acres has that option, he is good overhead and if he is smarter than he can still contribute at the top level.

Hopefully each of our players learns their role / positioning so well that it is second nature.
SS is in the top echelon for kicks in the comp. Unfort BA is the opposite end of the tape.

Maybe needs to scale it back it on the kick difficulty (concentrate on the basics, and train it) with more offloading it by hand to runners with kicking nous.

I really worry about our tall stocks, especially forward. The back up for Harry is thin to non existent. We have history of trying to turn ruckman into forwards. Pitto aint one, Reddy aint one, and i doubt Huddo is either.

Would like to have a developing tall forward at least in the Magoos.
Yep. Hope we don’t regret not drafting Ludowyke.

"I really worry about our tall stocks" But isn't exciting to see Weitering is going to play SOO in Perth in February!!

I think we can cover a lack of tall forwards (especially if Harry stays fit) with players like Moir, Hayward & Kemp being mobile marking targets and smarter ball use. - the defensive end is a bit more of a concern IMO.

I am not so worried about the talls for 2026. For me, I see 2026 as something of a redevelopment year, just wanting to improve so we don't have those terrible drop-offs that were part of our past 2 seasons. For me, defence in 2026 will be built from Weitering down back, and leadership also from the likes of Newman and others, with H Dean playing a number of games, and remembering that HOF will be back (maybe for a few late games in 2026, depending how we're travelling). It'll be a bit makeshift in 2026, but still ok. I think club is taking a longer term view. I just want to see us truly competitive in every game. Having said that, whilst external messaging might not say it, I'm hoping we're still targeting finals, and looking to make an impact from there.

2 would be ideal

Honestly if we get a good run with injury i can't see why we should be targeting going deep into finals.

A fully fit Walsh, Cripps & Hewett with Lord & Smith is still a decent midfield - adding Newman and Florent coming off half back with another year into Cowan and Carroll makes us look a lot better rebounding while Hayward and Ainsworth plus another year into Moir & Motlop should see us look more dynamic up forward.

If we simply use the ball better it would go a long way as well

i agree though i think you can build or flesh out a forward line with medium or 190-192cm types if you have to. obviously at least one central tall would be ideal. i was kind of surprised lemmey was let go but then again i've only read about him, watched only highlights.

defence though... you need to cover who they put on the park and we're extremely thin and a weitering corky away from gaping holes.

So, I was at GWS training center this morning, just catching up!, I was chatting about their preseason (extra running but less back end staff because of soft cap issues) and was asked how we were traveling. I mentioned I’d read that Walsh’s was flying and the direct response from (let’s call him recruiter A) was, ‘ geez, if he’s going that well it’s gonna cost 3 1sts instead of 2 and some change!’ I said, why you want him?? The response, a nice to have but others are right into him and have more to give. Me: surely he stays. Response: Too much money flying around at the moment not to get your head turned but GW want get sucked into a bidding war and will take the picks every day of the week…
Me: So it begins and it’s only December. Response: you’ll know by round 8!

Looks like it’s going to be another round of will he stay or will he go…

Sam Walsh would be a massive loss.

Bringing in three first round picks for the 2026 draft (not spreading them out to 2027 and 2028) and five in total (ours and Sydney’s) would also be massive considering how good the draft sounds.

A huge decision to make for our club. One that I can’t see us losing either way.

Could be wrong, but my memory is that typically when talls slide significantly, be it across the 18s year or on draft night, there's very few that go on to do anything at afl level.

You’re wrong. Just a few off the top of my head. I’m sure there might be others.

Lackey #73 National
M Lewis #76 National
Mihocek - rookie draft
P Voss - preason draft
Amartey - rookie draft
