This is the bit I'm not sure on.We are annoyed because we got involved and helped WC and Brisbane get what they wanted and made a loss. We could have sat it out and found a pick swap elsewhere to satisfy Melbourne for McVee. Instead it looks like we took the fast option instead of the smart one.
Picked some very decent players with crap picks though
Can’t argue with that

The narrative that we've just thrown away a 2nd round pick for no reason is just straight bs. In strong drafts that have depth of top end talent in the top 15 picks, sure pick 12 could net you pick 19 and 23 on its own. But that's not the case here. Like why do people think the relative value of picks 12, 19, 23 and 33 are the same in every draft? These aren't just numbers it's a player pool which is completely different every year.
Last year we wouldn't have had to add 33 because clubs were fighting to trade up the order. There's none of that this year.
Also, there is 3 picks in between the 12 and 19 (now 13 and 20) that will dissolve with academy selections, Brisbane's 17 and Gold Coasts 15 and 18. So realistically the difference between 12 and 19 is only really 12 and 16 or 4 spots. So 12 has dropped back 4 spots and 33 has improved 10 spots if we ignore we no longer have that pick and judge the pick swap on its merits.
All this fuss is quite ridiculous when you realize we only dropped back 4 spots
It was never 34 we threw away anyway. It was the later picks; 45 and 51.The narrative that we've just thrown away a 2nd round pick for no reason is just straight bs. Must. Resist. Correcting. FactsIt was never 34 we threw away anyway. It was the later picks; 45 and 51.
Not sure kicked off this narrative about tossing a second away.
Port just traded 29 for an f2 so we could have done thatThis is the bit I'm not sure on.
Looking at the board right now, who gives us a better deal in pick swaps, to enable McVee?

Dont react Snuff, serenity now, serenity now
They will need keep more first round picks than usual as the points required has changed. The discount is 10% (was previously 20%) and the value of points is less than before. The points value also falls away sharply after 35-40. GC will likely trade out some whether it be on draft night or earlier time will tell - for future picks.Lets hope GC and Brisbane don't trade those picks for later picks for more points. No clubs ever do this.

No current season stats available
So stick 29 on the table for McVee take it or leave it? That's fair, best possible result for us (assuming Dees take 29), preserves 13 (improves 7 spots on current). Keeps 33 and 50 in play for a cost of F2.Port just traded 29 for an f2 so we could have done that
F2 and Brodie for 29
Then we flip 33 and 50 for a future to a club chasing points, sometime between now and draft night
Straight from the horse's mouth.
