Apologies for any inconvenience. We will try to find a replacement.
Plus the extra value we'd get, with him being a premiership captain and all...If you said to Moose that they want to sign him for two years but will trade him to Tasmania if they offer him a better contract in a year, I think you get the signature and the leverage to get the AFL's extra picks when Tasmania go shopping.
No current season stats available
I wouldn't have thought Peace would be going to the Tassie team unless he's pretty much finished as a top level player. He turns 33 in their first season. Dean Brogan areas. In fact weren't all their signings like that washed up? They didn't get anyone in their prime. Smart and Reecetober were still early in their careers, the rest were all 30 plus. I don't think the Devils are going to be shelling out good deals for your 'Establishing Standards' style players. I don't see them giving out big contracts to older players still playing good footy either. That money would be better invested in players they will get an extended return from.
If he is still playing good footy he'll be staying as I don't feel the lure of Tasmania would be enough to offset getting flogged every week for similar money.

If we said to Pearce we would trade him and tassy offered barely anything, we would be forced to trade him and it's the same issue because we agreed on it beforehand thoughAdelaide put in their deal a specific trade price, that was their issue.
PowerAre you talking about GWS? They got Davis and Ward. They also got some veterans like Power but they weren't all washed up. It was a sensible mix that time has suggested served them better than the gold coast approach
I think Pearce is the type they will chase.
Power
Brogan
Cornes

They were all washed up. Maybe Power played decentish footy but he retired after 1 season. Irrespective they were all pushed out by their clubs, had already announced their retirement or both.
Ward, Smart and Palmer were all still young. My point there was they didn't sign anyone decent in their prime. (Say 23/24 to 28)
If we want to keep Peace when the time comes we will is my view, as they won't be offering him materially more money to move (because of his age). I think the Gold Coast and GWS experience combined shows that the best return on cash is on players of established talent who are still young enough to be there when you potentially get good.
Those older players were very important in setting the foundations for GWS thoughPower

They were all gone by the end of 2013, most by the end of 2012. Both seasons in which they were regularly flogged by 14 goals plus. Unless you want to go all counterfactual and argue they would have lost all those games by 120 points instead of a 100, I don't see how it can really be argued they helped.Don't underestimate the leadership the above players brought.
I think it is critical to bring in high quality people into a new club.
Jack Jumpers did a great job of bringing in high quality people, but again that only works if they are also talented.

They got some good value from older players they signed when they had already been around 4 or 5 seasons (Shaw, Mumford, de Boer etc.) but thats different isn't it.

Yep. And they can do that cheap with players that are cooked but need the 200k for some reason. Not with players that still command a role in their current side.I was more talking about their attitude off the field, and if they can in print this on the large number of new players.
I think it is very important to set culture early at a club, and I think GWS did this very well.
Chad Cornes was always very committed to hitting the gym, and then was assistant coach their for a few years.

One place on the list still open? Rookie?
If Jones placed on LTI then yes.One place on the list still open? Rookie?
I refuse to believe it!Not sure Kelm is coming. Truly is an odd situation. He was coming did his hip and then we decided against signing him. A couple of years later he comes over for some training. Irish newspapers list him as heading to Aus for AFL contract with Freo but crickets from Freo. Indications today that we have finalised our list.
Depending on the status of big Odin Jones we may well trial a couple of train ons but for now our list is finalised.

I think what we want to see for a semi competitive Tasmania team is both the GWS and Gold Coast strategies together tbh. Question the character etc of those Gold Coast guys but I think we want to see 20+ players with AFL experience on Tasmania’s list in 2028 - gun youngsters with 2-3 years in the system are going to be hard to get whilst I think GWS were pretty much on the limit in terms of how many washed up veterans were useful.
Also think that GWS had it very good compared to Gold Coast. Much better initial draft, more concessions and started later meaning they were genuine sh**e and getting the top picks a year later than Gold Coast were. I don’t think that should be underestimated tbh.
I can see Tasmania taking Pearce but I can see them having a crack at quite a few other players first.
The local players Gold Coast got aren't too much less than what you'd expect from Tasmania in a typical 2-3 years tbh. Last year was a bit of a one off.I think Tassie, being from a traditional AFL state, shuld have some baked-into-thier-DNA advantages the northern franchise teams didn't have and never will have. Port made finals in their third year, that will be their ambitious target. They aren't going to be a gold coast. They'll be highly disappointed if they're a Freo (finals in our 8th year wasn't it?)
I think the fact he is a Tassie boy means they chase him harder & worry less about his age. If Freo are successful by then, he will be even more in demand. They will chase every ex-Tassie player hard to give the locals what they want, just like WA & SA teams did even if they didn't all work out.I wouldn't have thought Peace would be going to the Tassie team unless he's pretty much finished as a top level player.
