This could only be coming from Luke's manager, and it sounds like his manager wants to re-negotiate his contract.
Six players who have been traded out of Freo in the past 4 years were with this player management group when they left (Henry, Acres, Lobb, BHill, Logue, Hamling). If the AFL were a professional entity they'd investigate and hold player managers to ethical standards but they aren't, so they won't.

Surely if Melbourne are super keen on Jackson we can use it to flip the script on Pickett?

You want Jackson? It'll cost you Pickett and a first rounder! We could then use that in a Warner trade.

I don't want to lose Jackson btw but just putting that out there

Crazy how fast these contract numbers have ballooned. Traded Jackson and I'd have sworn black and blue he's not on close to a million for 8 years as its ridiculous money. 2 years later and if he has a good year, he could actually be underpaid by like 600-700k A YEAR. Nutty

Additional thoughts, again, Cleary is choosing his words very carefully on all these grabs and it's all very different language to Pickett.

Also, just putting it out there, while, yes, this all sounds very much out of the Colon / McDougall playbook, if it was a case of Darcy or Jackson, at this point, that's an easy decision (sorry Hodor).

On a separate topic, NOD will need his contract value doubled or tripled by mid season if he keeps that up. He was doing a pretty good impersonation of Young yesterday. How sick is that, Young goes off for a rest and a guy that's nearly as good steps in.

Stacked.

I thought that NOD was mainly playing wing until after half time?

Reminds me more of Danger (as per his draft profile) than Young. It's a superb PoD for the midfield if he keeps it up.

Agree he'll need a substantial pay rise if he keeps it up.

That’s exactly right. There are a few on this board that think the something “significant” being given up to get both in, means we might have to reluctantly part ways with Sam Switkowski for a first rounder!
And maybe throw Neil Erasmus in for good measure too.
Delusional of course.

If Pickett and Warner come in that means an A grader type goes out. A player of Jackson’s stature fits the bill.

Basically would you swap Jackson for Warner?

No

I thought Young left CSA, but you are right. He's still operating in the background at CSA. Last night was a classic CSA/Young move to generate attention for their client. No coincidence that the 'news' dropped while we were playing.
I do wonder if Young will stop working with CSA now as they've just picked up Tom Secull from Hemisphere who is a reasonably big name agent and seemingly fills the spot Colin left.

Maybe this was Col's final farewell present 😂

I think people need to cool their jets on the 1.7mil rumoured for SDK, he’s a free agent and won’t cost draft picks so of course clubs will pay more, they are effectively buying the picks the don’t need to trade for him.
No one (even Melbourne) are offering Jackson 1.7mil plus the 3x1st round picks that it would take to shake a player with 4years left to run would require.

I'm not sure it's got anything to do with ethics and it's purely capitalism..

I just checked the Accredited Agents list on the AFL Players Assoc website. Colon is no longer with CSA. He's set up his own over in Victoria along with his 3 sons. Is that because nobody else will work with him? Walters the only current Docker on his list.

Side note: wtf is up with that background in his profile pic? He is one strange dude.

He still consults for CSA, and he probably read the "Art of the Deal" so believes to be a good negotiator you have to act like a tough guy.

The club will work something out. They know how important Jackson is to the club.

Kingy trying to devalue Jackson - what a twat. At least Mitch shot him down decisively.

Most interesting titbit here for me is Mitch saying “Jackson sees himself as a number one ruckman”

I have heard this said before a number of times in the past by different people and it's always made me wonder… there must be some truth to it 🤔

The reality is as long as Sean Darcy is at Freo then Luke wont be the number one ruck. So I cant see how that matches up with his desire to be a number one ruckman?

Jackson knew before he asked for a trade that Darcy was at Fremantle right....

Media people say lots of things. That's their job.

Imagine you’re a manager. You get 2% of a new contract. You get 0% of existing contract. The managers want players shifting clubs.
Surely with any contract they don't get 2% of the total contract value in advance. They may get it annually, and if a player changes clubs they aren't getting 2+2%.

When players move the first year is usually bigger, usually the first couple of years - as Colin Young would say, you pay them to move and you pay them up front - so there is in effect a signing bonus if not an actual signing bonus where the agent gets more at the start of the new deal.

So they are incentivized to move them.
