Brisbane werent going to pay Allen enough to trigger band one unless WC ponied up for Starcevich.

West Coast said "ok Freo, Brisbane aren't going to pay Allen enough for band 1 so we're going to have two end of first round picks, we value McVee higher than one of those and we can front load a deal to him upwards of a million bucks next year. Or you could help us net Starc and our band 1 pick?"

In this case, if we have any doubts on Simpson at half back, then McVee is a must for us next year and I'm ok with us doing this trade.

I think this is spot on Brisbane add money to Allen contract to get pick 2 for WC.

WC pay overs for Starcevich for extra $ to Allen.

Freo pay overs to make sure WC don’t pursue McVee.

WC already pursued McVee and he turned them down. It’s an empty threat there and the WA clubs just end up ****ing each other over by doing that and make us pay a premium for every player who wants to return while Geelong get theirs for picks in the 20s at most:
