That prelim? 8 years ago?
Pies have one ruck and still delisted him. Shows how much he’s passed it
If you look at just 2025 then Teakle's performances are statistically better than Cox in most areas.I usually wouldn't be open to signing Mason Cox, I know we were interested in him a few years ago, but if he essentially filled the Liam Reidy spot we had this year, I wouldn't be upset.
There's worse depth we could have, we were linked to Boyd and Teakle after all, I think the majority of AFL fans could agree Cox is objectively (and I hate using that word) better depth than those two.
I'd suggest the new ruck rules make his height and leap more valuable than this year - looks like great depth. If you look at just 2025 then Teakle's performances are statistically better than Cox in most areas.
It's only really goals and behinds that Cox comes out on top with.

Doesn't make sense to draft another young ruck until Riddle is either third choice, traded or delisted.Cox would be good depth while Riddle and perhaps another rookie develop.
To each their own.
I play for the other team![]()
Depth is one thing. My issue is age. He turns 35 next year and 36 the year after. I don’t remember too many selections ever from Freo aged 35.Cox would be good depth while Riddle and perhaps another rookie develop.

8 weeks? With his 6 touches and 3 turnovers? Huge8 yrs lol 8 weeks
Who said he was huge , did a reasonable job down the line keeping Andrews and co honest …. at least for 2/3 of the game8 weeks? With his 6 touches and 3 turnovers? Huge
No need to add "fashioned"You're old fashioned
Keeping honest by allowing 13 marks and 9 intercepts. He’s 35 and washed. Doing one or two good things in a game does absolutely not justify wasting two years and a list spot on him. There’s no upside to it.Who said he was huge , did a reasonable job down the line keeping Andrews and co honest …. at least for 2/3 of the game
Exactly, he will likely be a better backup option than any state league ruck we could find.If the club decide their best option as a back up ruck is Cox, I am fine with it.
If we are going this route we need a back-up ruck ready to play AFL. From what I’ve seen at Peel there have been some promising moments but Riddle is miles off AFL std. If the club feel Riddle is 1 year off being capable of coming in and doing a role for a few games here and there then all good - sign Cox for 1 year. If they feel he is 2 years away then I don’t see the point in Cox. His management can argue 2 years all they like and then go off and negotiate with the 16 other clubs fighting for his signature. 1 year or GTFO. If he has shown plenty during his time here at Peel and as a fill in and the club feel that is the way to go he can earn another 12months contract. The way our list is, the bloke, whoever it is that's going to be 3rd ruck, doesn't he have to come in and play No 1 ruck at AFL level?, or not play AFL at all.
We already have the 3 forwards in Amiss, Treacy and Voss. Jackson plays the 4th tall, and sometimes is the most important tall forward, when Darcy rucks. Voss likely plays 2nd ruck if one of Darcy or Jackson is injured.
A player like Cox wouldn't work with Jackson out, and probably not with Darcy out. Cox would only get a game if 2 players were injured. Either the 2 rucks were injured or 1 ruck + 1 key forward were injured. It's not a impossible to imagine that scenario as being an likely occurrence over a season. It kind of happened last season. Players can miss through injury at the same time, and there are other ways other than poor discipline (ie accidentally) where players can miss games via suspension.
I suppose Cox could play lead ruck at AFL but if he was spending time at Peel where would he play? Peel have recruited a ruck and Riddle has to get some experience playing more ruck at WAFL level so it doesn't seem to work as a list management development strategy.
In saying that, it's hard to find anyone that can fill that role. Ideally we'd like what is not currently available, another 3rd developing ruck with some of the attributes of a Jackson who can play around the ground.
You got your wish and he was delisted. And you come the Freo board to bag him now? Talk about a chip on your shoulder...Mason is completely finished.
Not really bagging. He’s had a great career but he just can’t do what he used to anymore. You got your wish and he was delisted. And you come the Freo board to bag him now? Talk about a chip on your shoulder...
I see it as a plus for the club. I don't see him playingon a regular basis. But A very experienced player. A good mark, a very accurate kick.
Cost us nothing and not taking a kids place on the list.
And how good to be in the ressies helping coach Aiden Riddle and Charlie Nicholls.
Worth a punt I reckon.
May be.It's complicated because Peel have limits on the numbers of AFL players that can play each week at WAFL level, so Riddle could find he's still in Peel's reserves team again for a lot of season.
Got a feeling whoever the back up ruck is won't be training with us all off season for a spot. They'll formally be added to our list early in the SSP.If we are going this route we need a back-up ruck ready to play AFL. No point having another developing raw ruck. We have seen how well this has worked for WCE the past few years. They end up just cutting most of them. Riddle is our developing ruck who can also pinch up forward.
I can’t see how a delisted 35 year old can push for 2 year contract.
Personally I’d prefer someone like Brynn again on 1 year but with greater capacity to sign again next year and potentially the year after. He is only age-26.
Please correct me if wrong but didn’t Voss sign for 1 year as a SSP? He was young and showed plenty in PS training yet signed for 1 year initially.
Cox’s management can get stuffed if they want 2 years. I can deal with him for 12months.
From a relevant source Teakle hasn’t been formally offered a a train on yet. So you may well be right but we might as well select them in the rookie draft if that is the case.Got a feeling whoever the back up ruck is won't be training with us all off season for a spot. Agree with your point on Teakle and don't think Cox should be offered two years.
Tbh though I think they'll be similar rucks to Cox and Teakle available every off season. Not really that fussed which one we go for if its a one year deal.
