I said to @Cheesey Mac prior to the Carlton game that there were probably high 20s present, but the listed attendance figure will be little bit over 30,000 because they don't want to post a figure in the 20s.

I wouldn't be surprised if they're counting the staff again for the reported attendance. There's probably some agreement with the clubs on paying them for actual attendees not counting staff, while counting staff for the advertised value.

The values for our games have seemed inflated, but nothing would come close to the Gather Round numbers for being utterly unbelievable. I think those numbers were including people in Elder Park.

Yep fully agree.

I don't always think this was the case, but over the last couple of seasons i've seen some absolutely insane crowd numbers.

The Showdown was a great example, free seats in every row, but apparently we were at 99.3% capacity, in a Port home game where the prevailing opinion was that we were going to get smashed off the park by our hated rivals.

I think they've realised that nobody will hold the AFL accountable if they simply lie, and it's an advantage for sponsorships if they do so.

I didn’t get along today so did my best to give my ticket away but interest was below minimal.

Didn't the Chasing Greatness pitch mention 100,000 members along with the three flags in five years? How can we possibly declare the season a success, especially now the definition of a member is so heavily compromised?

I still get the weekly injury and team selection emails, and I'm not currently a member, so perhaps people like me are counted too.

I think the grandchildren who play Auskick are counted now, too. They are asked to nominate a Club when they sign up and I think they get a club-specific package.

They might not go to every game but they support the club financially.
You have them and people that are not members but still regularly go to game, they’re supporters.

This could be the final count before the membership tally is audited by the AFL.
Last years final count was 71,307 on 10th September but audited to 66,015 on the 11th of September.
