What if it's both? Tex retires and Draper takes his spot in the 22 allowing Thilthorpe to be full time forward.

That would give us more contested marking power in the forward line (which is probably our greatest weapon at the moment), gives us a way to both use Thilthorpe as more of a keystone in our lineup and give Fogarty more time on weaker opponents (which potentially gets around how hot and cold he can be)

If there are no complications to Drapers achillies, I don't hate that idea at all. Providing we're not going to do that stupid 30-40% ruck strategy Essendon used, and not burning a serious hole in our salary cap.

IF we ended up landing Draper, this would be how I’d hope we’d use him, but man 900k for a guy coming off an Achilles injury playing that role is a LOT

I don’t see it working.
The only reason our 3 key forwards work together is because Tex has such a high footy IQ and controls everything, he’s always dictating movements and ensuring players are set up correctly, something I hope Fogarty is taking notes about, because it’ll become his role soon (or possibly ANB).

If Draper is selected as a key forward, he will be combative and crash packs much like Thilthorpe, I see it ending up like Carlton with Curnow and McKay who always get in each others way.

Its a fair question. I would have to suggest going after fringe ruckman for that role rather than two 1 ruckman fighting for a spot. Draper is viewed as a long term option as ROB only has a few years left.

O’BRIEN OR DRAPER FOR CROWS

Adelaide ruckman Reilly O’Brien says he is at ease with his uncertain future beyond this season as his rich vein of form looks set to force a revised contract offer from the Crows.

O’Brien earned coaches’ votes for his dominant performance in Adelaide’s win over the Western Bulldogs on Saturday with 42 hit-outs (11 to advantage) and a game-high five intercept marks.

Contract talks for the unrestricted free agent were put on hold earlier in the season, with the 29-year-old looking for a longer and more lucrative offer than the two years offered by the Crows.

It is understood the initial offer made by Adelaide was influenced by its pursuit of Bombers big man Sam Draper, with O’Brien likely to be kept waiting until Draper has made a decision on his future.

“Obviously I’m out of contract, so we’ll see where that lands. But I’m really comfortable with where that all sits,” O’Brien said after the win over the Bulldogs.

“It’s not really affecting me day-to-day. I’m just focusing on playing with all my teammates, who I love, and this club, which I love.”

The Crows’ 2020 best and fairest could draw interest from Carlton should Tom De Koning choose to depart, while Geelong is also poised to monitor his movements with 34-year-old Rhys Stanley out of contract at the season’s end.

O’Brien said rumours during previous trade periods about his interest in moving clubs for better study opportunities in medicine had been overblown.

He said he would need to study full-time and would wait until the end of his football career to begin.

“At the moment, I just want to play footy for as long as I can,” O’Brien said.

“As long as I’m enjoying it and playing good footy, it’s the best job in the world – I love doing it.

“The plan is certainly to play for as many years as I can, and then attack the study after that.”
Draper is 3 years younger and more athletic but coming off an achilles and would take big dollars to get him. ROB has obvious flaws but has been way better this year (prob helped by the fact he's out of contract), hugely respected by his teammates, and has insane durability - not just the fact he has only missed a handful of games through injury since becoming first ruck in 2019, but doing so while consistently taking 80%+ of our ruck contests (which crucially means less RT in there). Conversely, Draper's ruck contest % has gone down every season (career avg 63% and more recently much closer to 50%). If these are the only 2 options then I'm taking ROB every day.

My issue with Soligo and a first for NWM is not that it isn't a good deal - it's more that Soli seems to be a really valuable part of team chemistry and how the younger players connect with one another.
need give rachelle, soligo and pcik under 10, for saints to even think about it, that minimum

Would he be a UFA - having been at the dog for 10+ years? If so, throw $2million a year at him for 3 years. THERE is your answer to completing our midfield!!
People would run nude down King William Street in only a crows scarf if this happened, the biggest of big fishes, would be bigger than Adelaide landing Wayne Carey.

He won't leave the dogs but it's a nice thought

Jake Soligo
Josh Rachele
Josh Worrell

need give saints above and next 2 year first round minimum, just for saints to have look at it
Nwm is a great player and will demand alot on the trade table but you're dreaming... hbf are a dime a dozen ... elite kpd and elite small forwards are worth their weight in gold.

what power saints have , do not accept any others, make him go to pre season and play
with richmond.
If it got to pre season draft time he'd just tell other clubs he would sit out the year and that he's so homesick he'll only be able to function playing in SA.

When's the last time a team got fair compensation for a superstar moving? Almost never! Tim Kelly was the last fairly paid for Superstar

Trade deadline will approach and you'll end up accepting two firsts, one of them potentially top 10 and a fringe player.

Club list management are never in a million years giving up 3 first round picks for one player no matter how good they are.

Clubs are obsessed with pick swaps how often do you see two mid/ late firsts paid but with an early second coming back? Almost every trade period.
