Did he get moved out of the midfield? His average dropped 12 disposals from 24 to 25
Yeh he’s gone from being half back/mid last year to more a half forward role with stints in the midfield this year.
Hardwick still adamant he’s “important to our side” but you struggle to see him ever getting 100% midfield time he would at the crows etc.
Think Neales position at Freo when he was always second fiddle to Fyfe et al.

Where is our Zorko, J Daicos or impey going to come from?
Need an elite halfback user who can take the game on.
I agree finding the type of player is also a priority, but half of me wonders if we may actually have the personnel already (as opposed to our midfield woes where I’m certain we just don’t have the cattle/depth and it’s a glaring hole)— it’s just that our game plan does not prioritise quick transition football (which is what most modern footy is built around right now). We have built a team that wants to kick to contest (ROB curtin Thilthrope) and get either a contested mark or bring to ground and create a ground ball/ball up etc. and attack from there.
I see max or worrell, if being allowed, to become a lot more corridor and attacking if our game plan shifted that way. But Nicks loves safety and defense

Mitch Hinge, Max Michealanny, Chayce Jones, James Peatling, or even Wayne Milera could play that roles.

Mitch is the guy but he’s only elite 40% of the time.
Wayne could be but just doesn’t take the game on enough.
Max no.
Jones will be delisted next year.
Peatling is grunt, not elite.

They play according to their role in the team. If given the license to run free, I see most of them having the ability to adjust and improve performance.

However, due to Nicks having a defence first approach, they don’t attack with that freedom.

Was going to say about Milera - he does seem to have a role that takes him to wing and no further

You are probably right, and I hope his attacking role and increase next year with more games under his belt. Getting more confidence in his body was a massive achievement last year, next year hopefully he can play even better.

What a relief that Murphy is gone.

Good news is that our other options in the forward line are at least talented footballers in various ways (without yet cementing a spot).

Still desperate for genuine small pressure forward with speed and goal nous.
Malcolm Rosas is seeking a trade from GC..we should be all over that one as he would fill that void

Well the coach doesn’t say dispose poorly half the time, so that’s not suddenly going to change with hinge.
Definitely a possibility with milera.
Max just isn’t that type of player nor is peatling and jones just isn’t good enough.

I've been a fan of Petracca, but I'm not sure he's the answer. He's in the process of being phased out of the midfield at Melbourne and seems much slower than he once was.
He almost died last year. Has bounced back well all things considering, another pre-season should be telling as to whether it's that or age catching up with him.

100% worth the risk for us. We aren't lacking young talent like when we brought in Gibbs.

It would depend on the cost for me, would love to see what he could do under Burgess again. In a bit sceptical of trading in 30 year old mids though.

Trac this year. Zac Bailey next year. Nas in 2028 ... who says no?!

Backline is stacked, no room for anyone else.

It's an issue because there is a fair bit of sameness there. God forbid we actually make Smith retire but for me Hinge comes out of there to give us another option and probably make next year Lairds last in the backline. I think we'd be better off with Laird being a bench player who can come on and fill multiple roles as needed to be honest.
