Rankine Rachelle Curtin Draper are the answers I think. That’s a young, talented dynamic group

Throw soligo in and build it around Dawson.

Really just depends on how fast those guys can take that next step and specifically in midfield craft

Hopefully, we have midfield depth, let's hope that the young lads come on, Curtin is a ripper, Dowling I think can be special, Edwards can be the prototype new midfielder, Daws is class, Soligo hopefully has some more growth and then there's Rankine and Rachele. Personally I agree we need to play the prior draftees more, overall I like our list a lot.

I think we’ve got too much average in our best 23 and bugger all high end talent coming after their spots. Draper the only one and maybe Marsh to replace Tex, but you wouldn’t have him overtaking anyone if not for retirement.

And outside Curtin, I don’t think there’s any great improvement in the 23. TT, Soligo and Fog I think we’ll get some more from, but nobody else stands out as having much more in them.

I could be wrong but isn’t their style all outside mids? Throw in Dawson.

This is why we got smacked in finals. Looked a million bucks against lower ranked teams in H&A but once finals hit and pressure increased, our outside players couldn’t find space we got spanked.

That was Crouch but now that leaves Peatling, Soligo and Berry as our inside mids.

Maybe we do throw Laird back in or it’s Dowling or Edwards.

It’s why I really wanted Sharp and Oliver. We have speed and class, but that doesn’t matter when you can’t get your hands on the ball.

I don’t think Dowling is getting anywhere near out best 22 — unless we have injuries.

I’d like to see us try and develop Max into a Ling/Cornes style stopper who gets plenty of his own ball. We need some defensive presence or at least a cooler, having seen Berry fail at his shot. Max rarely loses a 1v1 contest.

I think that’s a harsh outlook on all three with Rachele only playing half a year (and arguably being AA squad worthy from that period), Max being in his third year and Murray coming off an ACL (admittedly it looks like we’re better balanced with Butts but I’d give Muz a chance to tailor his game to suit our overall structure). Edwards is pretty untapped, and it wouldn’t take much to replace Berry as a midfielder in our current setup.

We’re still a young squad and a there’s a good chunk of players I’d back as more likely to improve on their 2025 season than not: Soligo, Curtin, Draper, Rachele, Michalanney, Edwards, Ryan, Rankine, Nankervis, Fogarty. I’m not saying I think they will all have better seasons, but if it outweighs or neutralises the expected fall off from other players (Tex, Laird, ROB, Berry) our list should be in a decent spot.

From the SF side:

In: Draper, Edwards, Ah Chee, Rankine
Out: Berry, Pedlar, Taylor, Smith.

Inside mid rotation: Dawson 60-80%, Soligo 60-80%, Curtin 50-70%, Peatling 30-50%, Rankine 20-40%. Draper as an emergency addition/low risk situations.

Pedlar is probably the only unlucky one, especially off a good finals series, but he loses his spot because it's time to get our two best prospects into the lineup. Taylor for Ah Chee is a pretty clear upgrade, Berry was useless as an inside mid and gets Draper in (with Curtin picking up his minutes) and Smith has retired.

Adelaide could go balls out and switch Laird for Bond, with the thought of releasing Max into a half back flank role, but that's not something I foresee happening just yet.

I agree, Cumming half back would be perfect. Didn’t like him much on the wing, don’t think we saw close to his best footy this year.

Think we used it well last year with Dan like a lot of teams, a mobile player who can expose at each end with marking.
Ah Chee very experienced played it pretty well for the premiers when needed. Maybe he plays one some of the time and Sid , Dan and others rotate the other with a bit of mid time. Look forward to bigman reports as to who is tearing up the time trials. We do have quite a few options.

Difference is Rachele was a midfielder at underage level. The others were not. Rachele absolutely has the tools to be moving at least 50% into the midfield rotation. Since we didn't draft or trade in a mid and our nidfield failed badly in finals, i for one are very open to getting him in there

I think we might see a bit of an improvement from Cumming, Peatling and even ANB.
It takes a while to get used to playing with a completely different group.
They all know the team much better now. And the team knows them.

Without crouch, there is a case for laird to play the extractor mid. Certainly we improve if he replaces Berry.

I do agree, it's a solution to the issues that ended up killing our inside group, which is that the floor fell out of them and Laird is an upgrade on Peatling as an inside midfielder. Though it's a path we have to plan out early; you can't be deciding this 15 minutes into a semi final. Equally, I think it has to be paired with planning around Curtin getting 4th inside midfield time just to make it tolerable to a fan base. Plus we're now in a phase in this build where Curtin is the player we are waiting on to be that ceiling raiser.

If you went in with a 3 man mix of Dawson/Laird/Soligo with Curtin and Rankine as your rotation mids and with the idea that once Curtin breaks out, switch him and Laird; it could work really well.

IMO going back to the Laird well as a mid is a retrograde step ......Peatling is that 1st touch Mid, to replace the aging Laird ....quick footed, great tackler, a hunter of the footy

He didn't have a great first season at the Crows ....he has upside though, and it's reasonable to expect a much better 2nd year, now he's settled into the Crows gamestyle
