Yep, someone has lost the plot tonight.

Did Max run over his cat...
No, just being a realist. Crows fans always over rate their own players.
This is just another example. I started this conversation by saying Max could be an A grader, but he's not currently.

The lack of All Australians confirms that.
Not that hard to keep up.

Tom Stewart, multiple All Australian Tom Stewart? I reckon Cats fans would think that's pretty dumb I agree.
They'd be very very dumb then given the age aspect of the trade.

The lack of AA in his 3rd year ??

Jesus wept this is a dumb take

If you had to build a side to win the flag in 2026, would you take Tom Stewart or Max Michalanney first?
That wasn't the point, would you trade a 21 year old Max for a 32 year old Tom Stewart right now.

I certainly wouldn't.

It's a bad deal long term but if it helped us finally win a flag in the short term I'd do it
Unfortunately there is no guarantee with that deal so I most certainly wouldn't even consider it. The age aspect doesn't even come close to adding up.

Right now Stewart is the better player so it absolutely would help us in 2026

It's in 2030 where we lose out massively
The question you should be asking is, is Max Michalanney the biggest impediment to us winning a flag ??

If the answer is no, then trading him in for Max isnt the right thing to do.

Until we get our midfield issues sorted we arent winning a flag with or without Tom Stewart

The whole thing has gone so far off course anyway.
Wasn’t the original claim that max is not an A grader? Pretty easy to argue he’s not.

Is Stewart an A grader, absolutely.

A fairer comparison is Josh Worrell vs Tom Stewart at the same age and Josh has Stewart well covered at that point. No reason why Josh Worrell can't make the AA team on his current trajectory either.
Also worth noting Stewart hasn't made the AA team in either 2024 or 2025.

Tom Stewart is absolutely cooked, is a thousand years old, and cats fans would chew their own arm off to get someone like Max in a trade for him.

Just one of the strangest opinions I've read around here.

Josh should have been AA this year

The best attacking, rebounding defenders tend to get given the easier defensive jobs.

Means they can zone off, are free to read the play, intercept, hunt the footy. Do their own thing to a degree.

They are complemented by more dour lock down types around them who do the heavy defensive lifting vs the best forwards.

Max tends to be given the toughest medium/small match up.

Is that where we see him long term? Or do we want players like Bond locking down and free Max up to be the Tom Stewart / Interceptor / Rebound Generator?
With Keane and Worrell set in defence for the next few years, we don’t need him to.

It’s a bonus that he can intercept and create some offensive drive while being really strong defensively first and foremost, especially if we do pair Keane and Murray together instead of Keane and Butts.

We've picked some weird direct opponents for Keane imho

Treating him like he's the Tom Lonergan of our defence instead of the Matthew Scarlett.

Nick Murray should play on the tall, deep No 1 threats.

💯 - I think Keane is solid defensively but his strength his his intercept and attack, so ideally he’d have the 2nd/3rd forward with Murray or Butts playing the lockdown defender on the opposition’s main forward.

Stewart is miles past it. You had to have not watched Geelong for the last two years to still think he's an a grader
He is against us

Keane would be the number one interceptor in many other teams, that’s why Bulldogs came for him.

He was absolutely elite in his prime.

Think his body is just about shot now though. Knee, calf, ankle and arm injuries all in recent times.
