Gonna be nauseating as every 2nd idiot you know becomes a 'lifelong F1 fan and expert' in the latter half of the season to cheer home 'the aussie'
We were all F1 numpties once ;)

And it needs to be remembered that the first modern era Australian F1 Grand Prix - in Adelaide from 1985 to 1995 and from then onwards in Melbourne - is very much due to the flow on effect of having an Australian F1 WDC.

Alan Jones becoming WDC in 1980 led to a huge increase in interest amongst Australian in the sport, with people staying up in thee middle of the night to watch races from Europe.

1980 was the year the South Australian 150 Year Jubilee celebration committe for 1986 was formed with speedway promoter Kym Bonython appointed as chairman and that was when the idea of an Australian GP, held in Adelaide was first floated. That led to casual discussion between Adelaide travel agent Bill O'Gorman and future Adelaide Lord Mayor Wendy Chapman who were both members of the SA Tourism Commission on having a Grand Prix in Adelaide as part of the Jubilee celebrations and as a way of promoting international recognition of Adelaide. O'Gorman wrote to then SA Premier John Bannon in 1982 - who liked the idea and sidelined then SA Cabinet Office Director Mal Hemmerling to work exclusively on a plan to get a contract for an Adelaide GP as part of the global f1 calendar. The rest is history.

Almost all of the people who worked on that idea (with the notable exception of Bonython) had very little interest in any form of motorsport, let alone F1, until Jones became WDC.

The more people in Australia that get interested in F1 the better imo.

I’m confused, I watched the after race chats on Sky f1. Did Oscar actually win the race? I barely heard it mentioned, I heard how Nando was catching him and would’ve passed him and how poor Nando missed out on the points but nothing about how well Oscar drove the whole race.
Oscar only got pole, fastest lap, led every lap, nailed the start and three safety car restarts, and won the race.

He was lucky Lando's power unit failed in the last few laps otherwise his inferior driving skills would've had him come a distant second.

Hadjar's trophy didn't last long

I was expecting to see a trophy get broken during the chaotic champagne spraying. Oh well, nothing a bit of Liquid Nails can't fix.

I agree, but with the engine failure the narrative becomes more about that than the fact that Oscar had him covered.
Agree it has.
Common-sense thoughts should be
Up until the failure Lando kept Oscar honest and Oscar didn't flinch.

all the money in the sport and they make trophies that break from being so fricken fragile.

what next? Monza trophies made of glass?

The way I see it is that Aussies have suffered long enough through the Weber and Ricardo eras and it’s the Racing Gods way of soothing those disappointments; hence they blew up Lando’s engine. Move on who cares.
IMO Piastri has been the more dominant driver this season so far and probably deserved to be more than 9 points before the Clog GP.

I liked how every time Lando got to within the 1 second DRS range Piastri would then push it out to 1.5 seconds again.

Great solid drive by Oscar. Not sure what Mclaren were going to do with Norris as they had chances to give him track position under safety car.

Piastri has a handy little buffer now which he can maintain by not over committing into the rest of the races. He has done a great job holding off Norris at arms length when he has been ahead in races and the chamionship standings.

Norris's car blowing up would put some doubt in both drivers minds going into the final races of the season. Oscar at some point will also have a DNF this season. It weird that he doesnt have a greater margin considering Norri's 2 DNF's so far this season.

Honestly, I think at this point the strategy isn't going to come from the top but each side of the garage will do their own. They won't want to be seen to be playing favourites hence both Oscar and Lando being asked by their engineers what they wanted to do if there was another safety car.

Lando has won 2 races by good fortune over Oscar, which is a 28 point turnaround, so last night restores the balance imo.

Which ones would they be? Oscar hasn't retired so... I'm confused on which ones they are. Australia Lando was leading all the way, Monaco he had pole, Austria he had pole, GBR Oscar got a deserved penalty (length is debatable but the rules left no scope), Hungary he drove a better race on the mediums.

It's a pity Max isn't within striking distance.

Last race where McLaren ignored Oscar wanting to cover Lando.

British GP penalty was a joke.

They gave him the offset with Lando as he asked. Lando drove a great race.

British GP penalty wasn't a joke, it was unfortunate and 10 seconds was too long but the stewards arms were tied on that.

So, Lando hasn't lucked into wins unless you're a biased Australian fan.

Then there's the Australian GP. Both went off, but Lando was lucky enough to be able to resume quickly, while Oscar was left spinning his wheels. He managed to recover to 9th, picking up 2 points - but he was 2nd (18 points) when they both went off. Assuming he wouldn't have overtaken Lando (he was significantly faster at that point in the race), it's still 16 points lost to nothing more than bad luck.

Lol, ironic as you are infamous on BF for your biased posting!

I'm not going to get in an ongoing argument with you as have better things to do.

F1 karma took place last night & it's funny how Poms are whinging...

Not going to get in an argument, starts an argument.

The oscar fanboism is nauseating. I want Oscar to win as much as the next guy but I'm not biased to call everything Lando does luck. He's a very good driver, but not as good as Oscar.

Even Jolyon Palmer on the post-race show said Oscar has been unlucky at times this season and Lando has capitalised on it.
