Still not as bad as the year they made Buddy captain when he shouldnt have even been picked at all - but they really wanted him to get his 8th jacket and then make it extra special.

This year's selection panel has a strong whiff of people who are trying to be overly clever and off-trend, but have just made themselves look like idiots.
No Worrell or Elliot. Daicos and Bont on the bench. Cameron as captain (well played to Jezza, knew it was a genuine pisstake).

Bont had a fantastic season. 3rd in goal assists and 7th in score involvements TOTAL despite missing 6 games.
He finished 7th in the coaches votes and will finish top 10 in the Brownlow. Bailey Smith played one single game more during the season and no one talks about the amount of games played with that selection.

Worrell very stiff to miss out. Should’ve been in over Battle, who had a fantastic start to the year but then became basically a lockdown defender. Hawks fans have sympathy, will never forget the Sicily snub in 2022. Still a head-scratcher.
But I say congratulations to both anyway on a great year, and they have bigger things to worry about than a popularity contest.

And the only actual captain in the AA side was Shannon Hurn, who went on to be the premiership captain that year.

Is it time to just award these medals in the am, announce it in the evening news and let the world argue in the pm online? The spectacle of the night is amateur hour, everyone on the light beers, no character anywhere, barely anyone knows when to ‘laugh’, clapping is awkward at best and Howey is working forcibly hard to his own detriment. Absolute waste of time

The most coach votes out of himself, Worrell and Vlaustin who apparently deserved it more.
I guess coaches think its important to beat up on 4th and 5th string forwards. BTW: he spent at least 40% of game time playing on 4th and 5th string forwards like Curnow, Cameron, Georgiades, Walker, Amiss, etc. and none kicked more than 2 goals on him (only Cameron got 2) and many times he only had 1 or even 0 goals kicked on him.
And more than that, they barely even got a touch.
I guess the fact that they couldnt kick many goals on Battle does in fact make them 4th or 5th string forwards.
True, but without him you'd have been nearly as bad as WCE.

Worrell, Vlastuin, Butters, Holmes and Elliott all very unlucky. Battle getting selected is a bit of a shock.
Wait, 5 actual captains and the jokers in the selection committee make Jeremy Cameron captain?

Both are a long way clear in defensive stats as part of the best defense in the league. Battle is a run of the mill medium defender who should be nowhere near an AA team
