Melbourne, Port Adelaide and Carlton are the biggest underachieving and flakiest teams in the AFL - so a win against Melbourne doesn’t really tell us anything- you’re right good to get games into our younger players and cudos to Young and Carroll who could have dropped their bundles, but Wright has a lot of work to do in football dept.

My worry with Young is he seems slow to get the ball from hand to boot. Hard to explain but sort of has this extra movement where the ball in hand moves across his body left to right.

Under AFL pressure that split second makes a difference.
What will help is when his teammates start to use him when free in space. Nearly all his possessions have been in tight

Some will say it takes time to adapt which can be true.

Personally I don’t see it.

But he will get the next month to prove me wrong.

Moir looks toned in the body, moved well. Tank might be good enough
Carroll probably his best game
HOF
Young popped up with a couple of things
White hopeful he can progress, just like the way he goes about it
Williams with stints in the middle looked good
Charlie, outside of the goals kicked the most I’ve seen him involved in a game ever
Cow
Lord

Happy to note most of the names above are the future

Horrible hit for Evans, hope he’s not too banged up
Mots worked his arse off, i saw pace and endeavour (the pace i hadn’t seen much of) but probably didn’t have
The overall impact on the game of others.

As usual the first quarter was quite enjoyable and thereafter more of a grind.

As someone else noted i’ve decided to just try and enjoy the journey and in particular focus on the younger guys coming through rather than worry about the destination, at least for the short term.
Moirs body shape seems to have changed in the last 6 weeks.

Might be my imagination but I was certain he looked much heavier at the start of the season.

Whatever he’s done, keep doing it.

And more on-ball time thanks . Looks comfy.

This crusade against the Carlton crowd that you're on is honestly one of the dumbest things I've ever read.

Our supporters have been burnt time and time again by this club. Until the on field performance actually reaches an acceptable standard, why would they blindly cheer-lead the putrid shitshow that has been on display all year?
Yep. We are 3+ hours away. A game is a full 10 hour commitment, $120 plus in fuel and night games mean getting back somewhere around 2am

We can bang on about blind support, but for me the juice has to be worth the squeeze.

We'd normally go to at least half a.dozen games a year, but only one so far this year. I'd guess there are thousands in the same boat.

Have you tried living closer to the

One hundred percent. Usually attend about 13 or 14 games a year. This year just 3 or so. I think the reality that we are a constant cycle of nothingness has finally drained many of us. I was there at the G for Carlton's last premiership. We are talking 30 years ago now. That's ridiculous. Two rebuilds and heading for a third.

Although, I don't think we need a full on third rebuild as the issues lies with the actual culture of the club and how it eventually infiltrates the playing group and gun players become mediocre players etc etc. our inability to select coaches whose abilities have long term effectiveness, ie game style.

I can understand why players like Cripps and so are going through the motions this year. He has been busting his chops for 12 years and it deems there is no light at the end of the tunnel. We are a portly run club that have been making unprofessional decisions for a long time.

Clangers had a bigger impact than free kicks, Melbourne butchered the ball more than we did.

A beauty AND a beast....

Has mid written all over him...
If he wants to play there, by all means, but he's a very good defender and we don't have anyone else as good 'all round' as him in defence. Great over head, good kick, can read the play and knows when to play up the ground, and when to stay back and defend - and very hard to beat being so solid.

I think I'd prefer him staying down back. There are plenty of Mids out there.

This absolutely cannot be understated

Rewards for team effort

Really just need it it to click for one of the smalls - or get an another….
This is what does my head in. Durdin is the best small we have. He has one bad game and is dropped (fair enough) but Motlop has had so many poor games this year, and yet he holds his spot every week, and Fogarty is nearly as much a protected species.

I would be filthy if I was Durdin.
Voss obviously doesn't like him.

Funny the different takes we have.

I'd have Durdin as our least convincing small forward. Average decision maker, generally poor positioning.

I'd agree Mots has been gifted games this year, though he generally provides the most pressure, and has slowly started to show some signs.

Free kicks are included in the clanger count, CoachB. That the clanger differential is so high is in part due to the free kick differential.
Sorry clanger differential 19 free kick differential 8, i said clanger was a bigger impact than frees. I rest my case

Well done to Voss and coaches for having the mind to back Carroll and Young in after their horror games against Brisbane. I certainly wanted both out. It wasn’t just through necessity either as Boyd or Wilson could easily have come in for Carroll, and Young could have been overlooked for a number of different players.

It is really disappointing to read the negativity from some in here describing the performance as a “meaningless win” too. Two youngster got their first wins in the navy blue last night. Winning is never meaningless. Indeed part of our problem is we haven’t done enough winning over the last 10 years so we need to know that feeling. Some people are so consumed by their anti Voss agendas that they can’t bring themselves to even enjoy a win.

There is still plenty of questions that need answers. A lot of improvements need to be made. Most notably for me is whether we have enough players with the skills and poise to execute under the highest pressure. Coaches and game style definitely need a look at but I think that it’s still heavily linked to the issue around skills, or lack there of.
We are only playing the kids because we can't make the 8. Think they would be playing if we were 11 / 7 instead of 7 /11?

We deffo don't agree on that - I think Durdin is the only small (apart from Williams) who understands where a small forward should play. I don't see Motlop or Fogarty functional at all unless they play in the midfield (sure both have kicked goals this year), and Durdin has only kicked 1 less goal this year than Jesse, despite Jesse playing 7 more games.
