Autopsy 2025 Round 20 – GWS Giants vs Sydney Swans, Friday July 25, 7.50pm, ENGIE Stadium

I think we’ve found a player in Fonti. Yeah he’s got to work on some of his turnovers, but silky, smooth and with a step & swivel that is just glorious to watch. Rapidly becoming a favourite.

Outside of that 3rd qtr blitz, the best play of the night was Fonti's spoil in that last quarter. A 30m sprint to make a contest with an unmarked Swan in the fwd pocket and effecting the spoil. Half the GWS boys got to him like he'd just scored a goal. Hes a giant through and through, living that Never Surrender matra!

That was right in front of us. Fonti was running straight at us - didn't think he'd get there in time, or if he did, it wouldn't be a clean hit on the ball.

But he got there and got it clean.

Not yet my favourite Giant, but damn he's good for (checks footywire) just 17 games.

Finally home. My thoughts…

Fantastic summary!

As I said during the match, he might be my favourite Giant. He is such an excitement machine. Yeah he burns the ball a little, and sometimes tries to take on one too many guys, but that’ll sort itself out. He is lightning quick with an incredible vertical leap and agility, such a good athlete. The way he creates play and breaks lines is such an asset in defence. Love watching him play.

His combine numbers were very similar to Darcy jones. Unreliable speed and agility. He is starting to learn how to utilise it with a game. Closing speed and hops are so valuable

One of the biggest take away from last night and the pst few weeks has been stringer. But not his attacking efforts but the defensive side of his game.

He has absolutely bought into the system and it’s creating goals. 3 tackles and equal giants highest 20 pressure acts last night.

The forward mix that we now have is so hard to defend.

I think he's very important and takes a bit of pressure off Ash to create all the run outta defence.

Buckley likely being out next week, obviously aleer will come back in, but in a strange way he might be a good match up for Darcy with his leap, as nobody else can seem to get to the ball when Darcy marks it at its highest point.

The most pleasing thing about last night, the extra gear they now have is what every premiership team across history has had to have. The ability to pile on goals fast. That third quarter was extrodinary after Kingsley's massive spray at half time.

100% this.

For all the talk about why we can't do this for 4 quarters - bad starts aside - the ability to turn it on when required IS the asset.

I don’t know what the crowd was at our game - it was a really good one, not going to break any records though, but not particularly relevant to the point of what I want to say…

Essendon vs Footscray

An undisputed big 4 club, massive, a blockbuster marquee team with a storied history, passionate fans…
A club celebrating 100 years in the comp, passionate fans, in really good form, hunting for a spot in the 8

Over 220 years of combined existence.

Over 140,000 paid up members between them.

Right in the heart of the heartland of the game.

Both at their home ground.

On a Friday night.

Under a roof.

A showpiece game.

Couldn’t even crack 29.5k people to come watch.

Anyone who says anything at all about our crowds out on the frontier, far from the heartland and actually deep in the heartland of rugba leeeg territory, barely a decade in, can absolutely G&GF

I can’t watch this shit anymore, it’s the same old story every time against the swans. This is the closest I’ve come from throwing my shoe through the back of the tv.
I hope you stuck it out!

How good is it reading back through all our posts thinking we're about to get flogged knowing what ended up happening.

It's like relieving the excitement all over again.

Give it a few years and it'll be the TFG medal
I reckon they will make it the Ward Kirk medal or similar before too long.
After Toby captains us to 3 consecutive premierships the Bnf will be named after him

Resilient, self belief and class difference!

Our Ruckman stood up after getting spanked last few derbys.

Angwyn played his best game, he needs to improve his kicking though.

Finn was brilliant!
Angwin has been terrific in this run of wins.
I said this last year, I think we are better when he plays.
His 2 way running is elite , especially in defence and helps us to play that run and gun.

There is a bit of Tom Scully about the way he plays. A really nice role player in a successful team but struggle in a poor team cause they rely on others feeding them the ball.

I always saw wehr and angwin as pretty much the same players, but this year has separated them. Angwin seems tougher with more body strength where as wehr still seems a bit light and easily pushed off the ball.
