I reckon his consistency is pretty solid

Lachie Neale just had his worst game since 2016 but I doubt anyone would question his consistency

Great players have quiet games. LDU's body of work has probably bought him enough credit in the bank imo

For me it's more North forcing a trade for LDU. Given what we may need for McGuane (and Lonie?) I have no idea how we'd get LDU if they force a trade
LDU is a mix of De Goey and Pendlebury.

I think his best is actually better than Pendles best. Nowhere near Pendles consistency but when he fires like De Goey he is a game changer and will win games by himself or in North case lose games less by what they should have.

I would not be leaving if I was him given the young talent at North. They will click soon.

Richards is our best bet as a replacement for our ageing list and fits the way we play as well as having history with the club. My guess is he would be likely to stay but a salary cap squeeze and situation with Ugle-Hagan, Smith might make him consider a move.

Please…. Maybe a 37 year old Pendles but not a <36 year old Pendles

You need to understand with the new CBA increase in the salary cap $800-900k is the new $650-750k.

This is the same situation we were looking at with McStay on $600-$650k. Does anyone really think that’s overs for him now?
Fair point on the salary increases. Still not sold on Richard’s being a need. Will watch with interest this weekend.

Midweek Tackle doing their best to over analyse Maynard's comments changing from "I can't imagine playing for another side" to "its a business so whatever happens, happens"

He's a heart and soul player, no doubt. But if Parker makes inroads and we can turn him into LDU or Rowell that's a list improvement.

I'd rather lose Quaynor than Maynard but he's the one OOC

Come at me etc

It was reported on Fox tonight that only weeks after reporting he wanted to be a Pie for life, Maynard has put contract talks on hold to later in the year. Ralph/Gullam reporting that this is his last contract so he wants to assess his worth. Reported NM last year offered him $1.2m over 5 years

Can’t imagine Maynard would leave. I’m sure a deal will get done eventually.
I can’t either, but let’s say that figure is real… can we even offer 800K?

He could possibly get a +50% payrise to do the same job…

Wouldn’t begrudge him.

Doubt he leaves but IF we did we should get some High Draft Picks

I always worry when big names get big Monet thrown at them.

And then I find out their suitor is usually StKilda or NM and I feel relieved.

Like others clearly we want Bruzzy to stay and hope a deal can be struck. I expect it will but if it doesn’t… we have a player with massive trade value and we will find somebody else.

He’s a Free Agent, unrestricted I’m fairly sure as he’s been on our list 10 years, so if he leaves it won’t be via trade. It’ll be via FA so we’ll only be able to get FA compo which will be diluted if we pick up a FA.

It's too defensively exposed for me. Rowell would be fantastic for us, but I don't think you'd go with all 3 together too often.
Who would be your choice of those available to best set ourselves up for the future?

Scott Gullan is a muckraker who offers more value as a footy journo writing gossip columns about other footy journos than he does writing about actual football.

All of the talk about how much Perryman and Houston are on is completely negligent of the fact their deals are under the new CBA, in which $800k-$900k is the new $650k-$750k, give or take. Maynard current deal was signed under the previous CBA, so of course he's on unders.

Gullan was also incorrect in talking about why we tipped out Grundy and Treloar. We didn't tip them out because we paid others too much, we tipped them out because we paid them too much.

Anyone with a modicum of knowledge of our list should realise it won't take much to find the cash for Maynard. We don't have exceptional young talent coming through needing a pay rise beyond Hill, we have about 10 30+ year olds that at the very least will take cuts to stay if they don't get moved on entirely and the likes of De Goey (OOC next year) hasn't demonstrated enough recently to be demanding much more than what he is currently earning.

True but we’d still get compo and the cap space that would open up.

He’d only leave for one reason… money….most likely at a lower ranked club where premiership success would be a distant dream..

Like others my anxiety over this contract is limited. The caveat being this would be the worst possible year to lose him. Had he taken the deal last year it would’ve been a straight forward pick 2 or no deal discussion. If he were to leave this year unless it allows us to bring in Richards/ LDU the FA compo is next door to worthless especially if McGuane has a strong season.

And will be low value anyway if we have a decent year in a draft with heaps of early picks expected to be academy or father son selections.

If he left, could some of the draft capital from a FA compo pick help us get Rowell…?

Maybe.

A lot to play out.

And now the Hun is reporting Cameron is keen to test the market and Carlton are keen on him if TDK leaves.

Yet another bit of reporting on our player contracts referencing Perryman's and Houston's salaries. Why does the money of Perryman and Houston affect Cameron's contract at all? Completely different roles.
