Cox is our only somewhat capable backup ruck, so we’d need to recruit another if we cut him.

Depends on how Mitchell comes back, but he’s a Brownlow medalist and not all that old compared to others on our list.

WHE is a versatile utility still playing decent footy, but would leave less of a hole than the other two…

Any spud youngsters we can lose instead? Or Re-rookie some of the above?

Not sure about ‘having’ to stagger your exits, if you’re in the mix for a flag you don’t want to cut best 22 players or solid depth just to meet the staggering principle.

I thought Howe was very likely to retire but now I’m not sure. Cox, WHE, Markov, Mitchell are the older ones I think will be going

Ash and Oleg possibly too.

That creates three list spots (if we move two senior players into the rookie list). Leaves us with one more spot to free up to make it four

I think someone mentioned we generally have between 6-8 changes on the list. Will be interesting, I do think some older players will retire/finish up, just a matter of how many.
I thought the staggering was gonna happen last year, I definitely think it'll start this year.

Last year never made sense to me because the ones that looked close to finishing up were the ones contracted for this season

There will be a player or two that leaves via trade that no one is talking about. It’s happened every year since 2019 and as sure as the sun rising in the east tomorrow morning will happen this year as well. I’m going to guess Allan or one of the vets that is keen on padding out the super.
