There is talk he wont even go to the Bnf

I don't see how he can go back to essendon now. Feels untenable.

His Teammates have come out and ripped him as well.
This has turned super ugly now and there’s little chance he walks back in to the bombers.
Imagine Zac lining up on Anzac Day for the Pies

Even aside from his team mates , the average Essendon supporter's attitude towards Zach is GTFO. Hard to see him there next year.

It’s the clubs fault, Merrett has shown loyalty beyond what 99% of players would have.
The abysmal way that club has been run has taken the best years of his career and you don’t blame the guy one bit for being Jack of it.

I personally can’t see how Zac gets any criticism here, what more could he have done? No its the clubs fault 100%

Our savvy trading is what’s kept us where we are.
Our use of early picks had been quite poor for a long time now.

Sam Mitchell has done this to Allen and Merrett now.
Harming their reputation and putting them in the hole by leaking meetings info.
He has a tactic of trying to break the existing bond to get them over.
Will become toxic very quickly.

Fly did it with JSOS, celebrating a date, which I didn’t like.

The big difference with Fly & Silvalgni was he was out of contract, not their captain and Jack had informed the club of his intention to leave. The journo's would have known they'd met, so Fly was being honest.

Mitchell is going after captain's and in Merrett's case, still under contract. He lied in his presser about meeting him, and as you say it looks like it's Hawks leaking the meeting.

I hope Hawks miss out on getting him & players are hesitant to meet with him in future because he's a sneaky bastard. But mostly because I don't want Hawks to improve.

I agree to a point. The club has not reached the levels they sold to Merrett for him to resign (did anybody really believe they would?). If a club signs the client to a contract and break it they have to pay the consequences - I believe there should be some risk for a player if they break the contract and request a move - they should not be able to just move without any consequences

I think he wanted it public this time and to snub Essendon to back them into a corner and force them to trade him.

Because it’s gone nuclear, it’s harder for Essendon to extract full value. If they had agreed quietly to explore options with Zach, then maybe they’d have been able to ask full price.

Hmmm. I also think Melbourne is there as well. It is just beautiful. Kinda like a really low slow cook. Just one is magnificent, to have all three is just so good. Happy for my heart to break for a good cause.

Hope Essendon hold firm. The amount of egg on the face of their coach, CEO and board would be dramatic if they fold. They gave themselves no outs and didn’t even mention “unless godfather offer”

The club has been seen as weak in recent times, if the 3 most powerful roles in your Footy club are that steadfast they simply cannot trade him.

It will also be good for the league! It will be the first time people really think about allowing clubs to trade players anywhere which is simply required at this stage.

It will stop all this shenanigans about highly paid players demanding to go to specific clubs and doing drastic measures like not going to the bnf knowing he will get to where they want. “How pick 1 or 2 sound for Merrett west coast?” That’ll shut him right up

I know this may sound strange, but the situation could cause such an upheaval at the Bummers that it could be catastrophic for the compgiven Essendons drawing power. My thoughts are that all clubs interested in Merritt should back off and the bummers could spin some narrative that helps to heal the wounds between the club, team mates and Zac.

I think free agency was always going to end up like this. If this trade is allowed to go through, I feel a cancer will be released without a cure.

It's starting to remind me of the Alexander Isak situation in the Premier League. Once Isak refused to train at the club and made public statements it was over - there was no going back to Newcastle. Relationships were broken.

If Merrett skips the BnF, and given that his coach and team mates have already had a crack at him in the media, it's a mammoth task for the Bombers to fix a situation where the club skipper doesn't want to be there, he's getting paid a bomb (pun intended) and his team mates don't have any faith in him as a player.
