IMO the pies need all of Carlton, Essendon and Melbourne to be competitive. It keeps the $$$ coming in.
We ain't getiing 90k plus crowds with GWS, Suns etc games.

I'm starting to think Mitchell is doing it to unsettle other clubs.

Just like his on field behavior it’s ingrained.

The difference is that there are plenty who will fight back if he’s made himself a target. Disrupting his squad with meetings and huge offers to OC players, playing hard ball with trades, isolating him as a peer, are all likely outcomes.

Merrett is very good, but Bobby is too and he’s 5 years younger. Rather keep Bobby + the R1 pick.

Apparently Henry Hustwaite is keen to get opportunities elsewhere, because he is behind a few mids at Hawthorn.
He would make an interesting twin towers midfield with Ned Long, and is only 21.
We should enquire about him.

I think he’s worth a look but you trade for these guys there’s an expectation that you play them. Who is he tipping out of the current side?

I’d like Sidey to play more forward from here on in effectively swapping with McCreery so Beau is more midfield.

Pendles doesn’t really play anywhere but midfield. I like HH but think if we trade for one like him it’s next season.

Hustwaite doesn't look like he could play any position other than midfield - and he's no certainty there either. He'd need an injury next year I think - or go past Long - I think Long will keep improving. I doubt we'd chase him.

Maybe. I just think he’s leaving because he wants to play. I’m not sure he gets that next year with us.

I think we’ll move for a mid when an opportunity presents in our midfield.

If Zach Merrett is arriving at Hawthorn then I hope we're rolling out the carpet for Cam Mackenzie! IMO will be a genuine gun this young fella - just needs the opportunity and time

I agree. I think McKenzie could be a very good player. May need a couple more years and a dose of confidence.

It's more about transitioning to the post Pendles era - his age is a plus.

Mitchell has said he's one of his favourite players, when asked about him looking elsewhere.

If that's true, I'd want him just on that basis alone.

IMO he's very good by foot - but more so stemming from being a really good decision maker and hitting the right target, as opposed to that "pin point laser" type kicker that can lace out anyone on the field.

What I like most about him is he's good both inside and outside the stoppage - he's got good hands in tight and natural feel for a clearance, but on the outside he's a solid runner (decent speed too) that's reliable ball in hand. I think he'd make a really good "Robin" to our "Batman" in Nick, with them being balanced by a Ned Long type. Surround them with some additional pieces, particularly a real speedy wingman, and the core of a really damaging midfield for the next 10+ years is there.

Cam McKenzie reminds me a lot of Joe Richards, always looks composed and makes great decisions when they get the footy. A good ball user and would be a great midfielder to get. Husthwaite I think is also a good player to look at, these players just need time and confidence, and worth pursuing. And if Zac goes to the Hawks there will be no spot for them.

The big difference with Fly & Silvalgni was he was out of contract, not their captain and Jack had informed the club of his intention to leave. The journo's would have known they'd met, so Fly was being honest.

Mitchell is going after captain's and in Merrett's case, still under contract. He lied in his presser about meeting him, and as you say it looks like it's Hawks leaking the meeting.

I hope Hawks miss out on getting him & players are hesitant to meet with him in future because he's a sneaky bastard. But mostly because I don't want Hawks to improve.
