That's 7 right there that honestly would be surprised if we kept any of them.

Then on top of that, means we'd re-sign Harvey, Maley, Pink, Ford, Banch and Trembath. I'd only be confident at this stage that Pink and Maley will get extended. The MSDs, I have nothing to go off. Harvey and Ford I'm not confident if they'll stay or not. I could see a world in that if Banch and Trembath don't pull up trees, and Harvey and Ford don't get given a go this year, that all 4 could possibly go. I could also see a world in which a couple get retained.

I haven't even touched on Teakle yet whose also out of contract. I'd like to keep him for depths sake. If X goes down.. big trouble.

Some strange numbers floating around: We currently have 2 extra rookie slots and 2 MSD rookies from LTIs which means we have 4 more on the list than the normal number.

So if we lose the extra rookie slots we need to delist/retire/tradeout 4 more players than we bring in.

Even to take 3 draft picks and 1 trade-in, we need to lose 8 players.

Yep. 8 will go bare minimum. We've got 38 on the main and 8 rookies (including two new MSD's).
5-6 off the main and 2-3 rookies is bare minimum changes to create 3-4 spots.
We might even upgrade Maley onto the main list as well.

Getting Trembath spells the end of KD imo. Rather pick up a taller key defender in the draft and get them developing now whilst Logue/Corr/Pink/Wawson/Whitlock are the depth options. Two of Logue/Corr/Pink probably go in 12 months.

The VFL clubs are getting fleeced by the MSD - wouldn't be happening in the EPL. Should be 50k minimum (per player)

Admittedly he's suffered an archilles injury which ended his season, but could be a decent Darling replacement.
He could share the ruck duties with X (or at least cover X whenever he's having a spell/not playing), and also play forward.
We've been fortunate this season that Xerri has stayed fit, but does look tired especially towards the end of games.

Leek Aleer would be another that I'd hope we're in for. Need some improvement to our KPD stocks. Logue and Corr aren't doing it. Pinky has been doing alright this season.

Then of course there is Jack Whitlock

We need to be thinking outside the box. We can't attract good opposition players at the moment, we need an advantage somewhere else. Can't be relying on top end picks all the time.

Pluck a few kids from the Murray region, get them down for the early part of the preason and rookie one (or 2) of them. If we can, keep the others on for our VFL team.

Develop them under Barlow and Lynch.

A guy I’d like to see us target as a cheaper option with plenty of upside is Oliver Sestan at the dees.

Hasn’t played an AFL game yet but has been excellent at VFL level playing off half back. 188cm and built like a brick shithouse. Very strong and an excellent kick.

I’ve always kept an eye on him because he was picked up in the 2022 rookie draft on the back of some skills exhibition for recruiters where he was the only bloke who could compete physically with George Wardlaw. Didn’t come through the junior pathways.

Love this thinking but as a club we just don't think outside the box (Cue Nostra Cat B rookie rant, and fair enough too). Hopefully it changes, perhaps we didn't have faith in our development / Gavin Brown? Surely the club thinks things are tracking well enough under Mick Barlow that we can try 1 or 2 left field options?
