I reckon Cooper was gone until they played him. I suspect Payne and Ford similarly are gone unless they can pull something out of the hat, and I’d like to see them get a crack in the seniors to try.

Oddly enough injuries seem to be saving CCJ who probably keeps a spot before Teakle, who I’d prefer to keep of the two, but he really couldn’t cut it when he got his opportunity.

Then it’ll be interesting whether we continue with the nice guy approach to perennially injured players like George, Goater and Bergman. I want them to succeed but it feels like Taylor Garner all over again.
(B) George and Goater have contracts for next year don't they?

I was talking about Cooper Trembath as a rookie. Cooper Harvey is main list. Both I think get 12 months.

Goater and BGeorge have already been extended until end of 2026.

The drums will continue to beat louder as the wins don’t materialize
This article is posted a year too early for mine. Hawthorn Racism saga screwed NMFC and Clarko for the first two years. This is the first year that I see the Clarko that had a competitive look in his eyes. You see his demeanour in the pre-match pressers now compared to 2023 and 2024. Very contrasting. Media throw up names of coaches that have no experience in navigating a list to success at AFL, especially a one that is in the position that NMFC is in atm. I remember back to the 90's and early 2000's when Hawthorn were easy beats and deemed irrelevant by the media. NMFC are in a similar position now. Had wins against Melbourne and Carlton, media seem to brush these aside pretty quickly as do some folks on here. And the draw against the reigning premiers down in Tassie. A coach is as good as his list. Clarko built that at Hawthorn and people tend to forget the years that he and his team spent at Hawthorn building the list, no one remembers the journey, everyone remembers the results he produced. The years of damage from poor recruiting from the teams led by Brad Scott, David Noble will require undoing. Make no mistake. That is the process NMFC are going thru right now.

Probably, and I’m glad they do. I like that the club seems to do the right thing, however I do wonder if it’s holding us back and a more ruthless approach would work better.
They could delist CCJ or pay out Corr or Fisher before getting to those two if they want to be ruthless.
Brayden is at least playing VFL and should be set for a big preseason (knock on wood) and hopefully the same with Josh.
End of 2026 might be decision time for Josh if his body is just not up to it.

We've let players go who don't offer as much as they do after injury. mahony for example. I guess we'll see what happens with Miller Bergman and Tucker this year. That'll tell us if we're ruthless when we need to be.

We were pretty keen on Mraz in his draft year, but don't think he'd be looking to leave.
Don't think we'd be all that keen on Frost or Blanck.

Maginnes would be great, but don't think you would let him go. He does your tagging jobs doesn't he?

Eddie Ford has had some injuries this year, looking like he's more finished.
Too many half fwds with Zurhaar, PC, Harvey, BGeorge, Duursma. I just don't see a role for him.
They tried him down back in the VFL, which he did okay in, but then got injured.
Feel for him, looked like he got really fit and didn't get a look in all that much.
I suspect he doesn't play to structure, but not totally sure. Seems to not be trusted by the coaches.
Who on our team does play to structure ? We are a dogs breakfast..

Atleast he has some X factor.

I think he could go on and become a player but it won’t be with us.

Good luck to him.

And they should. The draft is stuffed now because of free agency compo, Academy access and so on.
Also player power to only go to a contender club, which means worse trade outcomes.
They won a flag 7 years ago. Game is officially cooked if they give them one.
Not to mention the picks they pissed away for Kelly.

Many years ago Toll and Patrick had a joint venture rail business. (Going by memory here...) The two partners had a big board room blow up. The CEO was not renewed and there was a standoff. Both parties wouldn't let the other appoint a new CEO. I recall it got to the point where one party said 'we simply can't find a CEO now in any circumstances, anyone willing to apply for the CEO job would be seen as lacking in judgement for walking into this disfunction, to the extent that they would instantly disqualify themselves for showing such poor judgement'. (I can't recall how it all worked out).

This strikes a chord with me when thinking about any incoming player options. We are in such a bad position, with such an extended period of terribleness, that any recruit wanting to move to us would almost disqualify themselves because there would have to be an unworkable weakness in what they bring.

(Not serious, using this dark 'humour' as a coping mechanism).

On the Lever news, we really need to have some spacial awareness and start respecting ourselves and they we handle our list.

To quote Vito Corleone here and relate it to why Melbourne is looking to offload him - “Why come to us? What have we done to deserve such generosity?”

And this applies here again without question.

If Lever was any good (even for 17th placed North) and was genuinely going to improve us, then there’d be a long line of clubs willing to take a look ffs.

This shit needs to stop

North have 2 options. Get talented players in the 24/25 range OR just build up from the draft and wait until the 2021/22 crop come of age.

The stark reality is unless we are mid table 10th-6th range we are only going to be topping up with B graders at best. Thats not going to get us out of the mess we are in.

One would think after all the failed recruits over the last decade the club is once bitten twice shy. They are gluttons for punishment.

As you said we don’t have any other options other than nailing and developing our draft picks.

The successful trade and free agency deals we always see are centred around finals bound sides.

This shuffling of player’s that are past their best is not going to do anything for us.

And yet the club feels this is now the solution to our on field woes.

Rawlings is a donkey because already in 2026 it is going to be Comben’s 7th season.
Xerri’s and LDU’s 9th.
Zurharr and Larkey’s 10th.

Ffs these players are entering their prime and yet already were seeing a sizeable gap develop between them and the rest of the side who are in their 1st, 2nd or 3rd years.

How. How after 6 years of a rebuild do we find ourselves with yet another hole in the 22-25 age group and having players ready to burst.

Heads have to role for the absolute disastrous mismanagement that has taken place.

You just cant underestimate how hard it is to rebuild when you can’t attract very good players to your club to assist/fast track.

Thats why it was so effing crucial to show some good form towards the end of the season and unfortunately it’s been the complete opposite thus far.

Had to have a few days away from any North chat as it was frying my brain.

Log on to see Jake Lever rumours….

I'd clear out Fisher, Scott, Corr and Logue, bring in Sam Frost from Hawthorn as defensive depth and give Payne, Banch and Trembath all another year.

What the **** has happened to Scott.
If he was playing to the same level as the last few years we’d be a much better team

I don't know but I've lost patience for players that don't seem to be committed. If the best case scenario is we stick by him and end up with a winger with poor kicking in the side, I'm ready to take a gamble on someone else.

No more getting players from other clubs that are not in their prime. We need players who are not getting a game because the team that they are currently playing with hasn't got a spot for them to play in or we just continue with our younger players for another year or two to see how it plays out.

We seem to get players who, when they come over to us still have their standards from their previous club to start with and then after awhile it gets absorbed into the North culture and then goes down hill from there. Time to change the culture and get rid of the bad apples..

That’s a lot of payouts but we’re probably one of the few clubs that could do it. Frost , and Silvagni for that matter, at least play like they give a damn but Frost’s brain fades would drive us all insane , if we’re not already there.

Any other era, when the draft was less compromised, they would have received a pick before the draft. They deserve at least a future second they have to trade. Just because we got ripped off doesn't change how hard it is to rebuild at the moment.
For what it is worth, we should get something too, be it soft cap funding or whatever.
