It wasn't pretty but they got over the line with grit and determination. A few of our listed players lifted and that was the difference. The win would not have happened had Smith not been so competitive in the ruck. He's always shorter than his opponents, he can't jump but he has a heart as big as a lion and acts as an extra mid-fielder.

Busslinger is a strange one.
Has some ability knows what he's doing but also at times looks like a baby giraffe on his feet.
I feel he would find the going tough against the big forwards at AFL level.
Not sure if he's got the strength yet?
I think it's the right call to give him more time at the lower level first. It's a long season opportunity will eventually show when the time is right

Re Busslinger: He turned the ball over a few times with poor disposal and his opponent had the better of him in the 1st half. He was, however, clearly our best backman. Took 10 Marks and provided a link to move the ball from the backline on many occasions. He is a very talented player but if I was asked if he is ready for AFL level, I would have to sit on the fence. I think he may find one-on-one contests with bigger key position forwards, a challenge. I detected a slight change in his energy levels in the 2nd half where he looked more switched on and that may be a clue as to where he needs to get if he's to make the transition. That is, to find a higher level of physicality. His competitors for promotion are Khamis or O'Donnell so it's all in his own hands. He's not that far off but I've been saying that in this forum for a couple of years now. It's step up time.

Wasn’t able to tune in.

Croft and Muratore with 1 disposal and 1 goal each. What happened with these two? Both were outstanding against the Bullants

Hynes was threatening in that last F50, got on the move, willed himself to make something happen. Got the game winning goal as a result.
I like the intangible quality factor with young players. Just doing something special exactly when it’s needed. These skills can’t be taught.

Disposal to our forwards in the first half was poor so that partially explains Croft's low output. Kicked a great goal in the third but couldn't gain any separation from his opponents in a high pressure situation. Muratore did not look likely in a game where the heat was on in contests throughout.

Buss strikes me as the kind of defender who will be really good and reliable at AFL level after the age of about 23-24 (what is he now … 21? 22?) Gradual progression as he gains physique and experience.

Just got to give him a taste for a few games this year.

Yep, and think that is the normal progression for a #1 KPD at AFL level. It's a role that just takes strength, and that's how long most will take bar the early developer types.

Can he play a Jake leaver role for us?

Play on the second or third forwards whilst playing an intercept role?

Can’t see why not. Khamis is not a robust enough player to leave one-out against the big blokes but he reads the flight well (like Buss) and can really play a role in a system defence.

I can’t see why Buss couldn’t thrive in that sort of setup.

It was a great afternoon out at Werribee.

I got into the ground towards the end of the 1st quarter.

Very good performance today from the Scraggers. Werribee are very good team and they were very strong in that 2nd quarter and it looked like it could be a long afternoon.

We fought back in the 2nd half very well to get the win against the reigning premiers.

Cooper Haynes played well. Those goals in the end was great. Liked Jess Busslinger’s game and Lachlan Smith.

Go Dogs!
