Our 2024 draft class could wind up like our 1999 draft class. Early days but all are showing promising signs.

The whole draft is looking very strong. This could be the best draft since the Hodge/Ball one.

Any draft where Sam Davidson goes at 51 must be strong.

Was quiet in the first half, but used it well. Second half, especially the last, was a reason we got back in it and won. Can’t remember him making a mistake by foot.

I certainly didn't see it all but what I did see he looked composed. Used the ball well and seemed confident in marking.

Didn't get an awful lot of it (11K, 2HB, 4M and 4T) but looked like he knew what he was doing and where to position himself.

Give him a couple more games to find his feet but early signs are good.

Busslinger certainly knows how to play, but I've got a feeling he's going to struggle at AFL level against the better athletes on the grounds. He just looks slow to me.

Jacques showed some good signs.

Smith doesn't seem to have the ruck craft or presence around the ground, although some of his follow'up work was ok. Can't see him making it any time soon

Busslinger certainly knows how to play, but I've got a feeling he's going to struggle at AFL level against the better athletes on the grounds. He just looks slow to me.

Smith doesn't seem to have the ruck craft or presence around the ground, although some of his follow'up work was ok. Can't see him making it any time soon

Weitering is probably the slowest player in the comp and he goes alright. Footy smarts, strong marking and good ball use can make up for a lack of pace as a KPD

Strong midfield defensive structure can make any slow defender be great

Since I had time, I've done a quick write up


Cleary: was fine on return, didn't really stand out but wasn't awful.

Scott: was lively early and kicked the first goal, couldn't really get near it in the second quarter but none of our players could. Was taken off with a concussion after a sling tackle in the third quarter and didn't come back on.

Croft: Struggled to have an influence as couldn't get separation from his opponents. Kicked the one goal from a nice set shot in the pocket and picked up 5 tackles (4 inside 50) so he was trying but just nothing coming off for him.

Kennedy: Was quiet, just 16 touches and looked like he was trying to play on Brew who was just bigger and stronger than him. 6 tackles so was putting in the defensive work though.

Gardner: Think he won his position in defence today Direct opponent only kicked the one goal.

Jacques: Solid on debut but clearly needs physical development. Looked taller than expected.

Hynes: Big and strong player, some big tackles and kicked the game winning goal. I think his future is as a half forward who rotates through the middle like Cam Rayner. I was pretty harsh on him when we recruited him as I didn't feel he was what we needed with our earliest pick but he's strong & competitive

Lachie Smith: Very competitive in the ruck, I think he won the ruck overall as he had most hitouts overall and was working hard on his follow up work. Had one absolutely beautiful kick where he hit up Croft in the pocket for his goal.

Busslinger: As I said before he was a bit of a mixed bag. His defensive work was great but he had some absolute howlers by foot that were out of character for him that resulted in Werribee goals.

No Poulter or Jones who travelled over to WA.

in terms of VFL listed players; Billy Crofts had his best game for the team, Cooper Craig-Peters was a jack russell out there and Orgill kicked an absolute beauty to put us up late in the game.

Certainly depth wise, star quality is more debatable. It's why I was keen on cutting very deep last year.

Luke Kennedy is the only one from the draft I have strong doubts on. I don't think he has enough tricks to make it. Maybe he could be a role player, potential tagger.

Watched him throughout his u18 days and hasn't really stood out to me. Don't see much upside either.

The game was the same on the weekend. Was surprised to see he had 11 disposals.

Funny how we all see things differently Smith IMO was reason for our win.
Uses his body well in the ruck and mobile on the ground and not timid.

I wonder if Luke Kennedy's best opportunities will be behind the ball. Some VFL time there wouldn't hurt.

His skill set reads like a defender and some of our AFL guys in that part of the field (Duryea, Bramble, Baker) look a bit dodgy at present.

Nice call - could see him as a small defender, that kicking will be a weapon from the backline as well.

Cooper Hynes and Luke Cleary come out of the side after being elevated to the seniors, while Luca Muratore, Jarrod Gilbee and Phoenix Spicer will all miss through injury.

Diesel Moloney and Bailey Young will also sit out.

Footscray will be looking to keep its winning streak alive when it hosts Sandringham at Mission Whitten Oval.

The first bounce will be at 2:05pm AEST.

The match will mark the second of a Bulldogs' Easter Sunday triple-header treat, with the VFLW Dogs hosting Williamstown from 11:05am at Mission Whitten Oval.

The AFL Dogs will then go head-to-head with St Kilda at Marvel Stadium from 7:20pm.
