VFL 2025 VFL Thread

We need to be patient with Croft, he had some injuries last year and this. He will come good. His tank for a 200cm player is superb. It's only his second season in the system. If we are going to play a 3rd tall up forward, Croft is it.

Sellwood must play AFL at some point. Racks up the possessions.

And not sure how people can scream that Buku is too good for the VFL when he had 4 disposals for the day. Sure he is eye catching due to his superb athleticism and skills, but he just can't play footy.
By far the worst I've seen Khamis play for the year. Nothing stuck for him today.

Today showed the importance of having an all but injury free list going into a possible finals tilt.

The senior players were almost to a man, rock solid and showed that they are ready to go if needs be.

But the real advantage was shown with how well the first and second year players filled the gaps and were allowed to play a more attacking game. Safe in the knowledge that they were surrounded by cool heads especially in the defensive half of the ground where L.Jones, Gardner, Duryea and Coffield reigned supreme.

With the games of Dolan, Croft, Jaques, Hynes, Kennedy, Sellwood and Walker. There was much to like and look forward to in the medium to long term.

Yeah, except his lovely run and bounce down the wing early. He got his hands to and dropped a lot of marks that he'd typically clunk. He was pretty bad. His inability to take those marks exposed his biggest weakness. His inability to affect play when the ball hits the ground.

It was probably not the best game to play in a the week when his management had actively shopped him around in public.

I wonder if this tactical mis-step had an effect on his game.

How was Luke Kennedy today? Seems like the only one of the draftees from last year not getting enormous praise, but he’s always a bit unassuming even when playing well.

What he did, he did very well.

I haven’t watched the game but sounds like it might be worthwhile (if I mute the commentary).

For those that did watch … did it look like Khamis has mentally checked out? Has he made up his mind that he has little chance of a regular run in the seniors unless he changes clubs?

He always has a tendency to look a bit laconic so I wouldn't say he was checked out but I would say that things were going a little too difficult for him out there so he wasn't running or leading anywhere near he could have.

It didn’t look like he had checked out to me. However I did notice that he tries to take quite a few chest marks that were spoiled, rather than reach out and take it in front of his face or above his head, which I though was his strength.

Also, his lack of core strength to lay a tackle or take a hit was obvious at the VFL level.

Buku in the seconds resembles Buku playing Senior footy - a good foil up front for 1-2 goals. However with Croft in the wings I think the writing is on the wall.

No, think he has been massively over rated. He is handy depth for any team challenging.

For the 9 pathetic teams he would be in their best 23 until the actually improve

Croft playing second ruck has unleashed him, It showcases his athleticism & keeps him involved in the game. It’s been a huge move for his development.

Once he is able to hold his own at AFL level, that’ll be an asset to allow Darcy more forward time.

He will also be a tough matchup for traditional rucks due to his massive leap & running ability.
Another preseason or 2 for Sanders/Croft/Fridge + Davo/Coops/Dolan/Jacques + the 2 for the MSD means SammyP has been smashing the draft picks in the last 2 years.
Easy 6 out of 9 very likely to be best 22.
2 are current starters
3 have already filled in and are viable subs.
Croft/Jacques/Selwood getting close to be subs.

We should let him go with our blessing. He may help LOLnorf or St Kilda as a stop gap. This is his 7th year in the system. He is not going to get better than he is from here.

Croft gets a clearance from the centre bounce and follows it up with winning a hard ball in the F50. Plays with a ton of aggression out there
His Dad Mat, was hard at it, really workman like. Did what ever job to the best of his ability.
Bloody legend, true underdog story.

With Flea's multiple surgery's, you have to have a B plan.
Have been really liking Garcia's effort, he is feeding off Westy. Fwd pressure and good spells in the guts.
Dovaston will be in our 1st pick range needs to be a priority to replace VDM and McNeil getting games every week

If the player we want is already off the board I’d be inclined to shift the pick into 2026 if there are any takers given the young talent from the last 2 years of drafts we will still want to get games into next year.
