VFL 2025 VFL Thread

If the player we want is already off the board I’d be inclined to shift the pick into 2026 if there are any takers given the young talent from the last 2 years of drafts we will still want to get games into next year.
I have heard other BF posters saying 2026 is a strong draft, so a 25 pick might need steak knives to get a 2026 pick.
Maybe trade it?? there are so many academy/F-S picks this year.
Sam got Kennedy for a 3rd, what could he get with a 1st? KPD??
Drop down to the 2nd round and get a younger Duryea replacement?
We got great options as well with our decent salary cap.

I haven’t watched the game but sounds like it might be worthwhile (if I mute the commentary).

For those that did watch … did it look like Khamis has mentally checked out? Has he made up his mind that he has little chance of a regular run in the seniors unless he changes clubs?
I suspect it's more coincidence than anything else that his management have clearly begun the process of shopping him about and his game today. But as has been mentioned they're obviously seeing the writing on the wall for Buku and are looking to extend out his career beyond the next 12 months that he is contracted at the dogs. Where he will see out his time at the club as a break glass option at Footscray. I think the likelihood of him getting a follow on contract is pretty slim and if there is any interest out there, then the club will be happy to facilitate a trade for not much in return. Given he was a Cat B rookie and seems a popular guy amongst the playing group.

Watch the game. Its a pretty good indicator of where our tier 2 players and recent recruits are currently at.

As an aside. This is only the second Footscray game Ive watched all season. Im not sure if todays result was an outlier or just a question of having pretty much a fully fit list available to it. I cant speak to the quality of the opposition other than the obvious they're on top of the ladder.

I get that (bolded part) but there’s usually at least one taker wanting to move a future pick forward for someone they perceive to have slid, so suspect the sweetener might not be big - I guess it depends on whether it’s a bottom 9 team’s F1 or from a top 9 team.

We have to make up about 72 points on Box Hill to win the minor premiership. Tough ask if it comes down to percentage. Not impossible, though.

Box Hill play an in form Casey on the road. Casey are playing for a top six finish so they'll be desperate to win. If the Hawks lose and we win, obviously we win the minor premiership.

FWIW, we play Carlton and shouldn't have any issues disposing of them.

Both matches on Sunday. Our match will start an hour before theirs.

Carlton VFL are pretty middling but they're not an 80 point worse side than us. I think we'll just be better off banking a win and preparing for the home final vs Southport who are a strong opponent as opposed to anticipating us jumping Box Hill on the ladder.

Love Liam but he‘s past his best and was awful in last years final
Who wasn't? He may be past his best but the main thing atm is whether he is better than the alternatives

In current form , he is not

He looked more assured than Sellwood, put it that way. Jones has runs on the board. Sellwood has zero. So it is either Gardner or Jones to bolster our backline. I choose Liam Jones.
Nice, we still will be going nowhere

Ahead of an expected debut at some point in the future, PSA: his name is Lachie Jaques, not Jacques.

I thought we'd shed all the problem surnames with Daniel and Macrae out

Was at the game yesterday at Box Hill. Great win!

Was impressed with our defence today. It helped them missing a lot as well.

Croft was very good kicking a couple.

Really liked the look of Jaques. Moves very well. Dolan is going to be a very good player. Sellwood had a really god game.

Liked how Walker went today. Liam Jones was very good. Hynes and Scott were solid as well.

Can’t wait to see Adz back. Hope he gets through the game and pulls up ok (said he pulled up really sore the first game back last time).

Whats the issue with Harmes? Not on injury list
Woof said he was back at training today which is great. I think it was Smiley Boy that said there may be some personal stuff going on for him as well?
