Great minds think alike and fools rarely differ.
I’m not saying that the AFL are incompetent, but the issues I listed are concerning for many fans of the game.

You may say we are fools…

But, someone like yourself who seems to support everything the AFL does is surely just as big a fool.

I’m not a fan of everything the afl does. Am even less of a fan of serial whiners.

Who cares if they've got the comp booming. Whipping the AFL is a national sport - secondary only to AFL. Get on board Sidey. You'd be great at it. It's your calling.

Having “the comp booming” doesn’t mean that everything is fine. It’s not whinging to discuss issues that are important to footy fans.

Ive got no qualms about anyone getting stuck into the AFL. Heaps of things they do shit me. But at the same time, when you step back it's pretty hard to argue that they've overseen remarkable growth where we get to turn up to packed stadiums and watch exciting games. I'll still complain about stuff, but at the same time they've done a good job.

To what extent does the game sell itself? Is the popularity of AFL solely due to those in charge?

The fact that there's constant, extreme noise non stop is a concern for me.
People can't talk to each other without screaming to be heard over the music etc.
I expect that there is going to be a lot of hearing problems with people over the next decade or so, especially with the kids that go to the games.
If they have to have incessant noise, they should be made to turn the volume down to safe decibel levels.

I think it's the home club rather than the AFL controlling that.

Nah. One of my mates nephews was managing the audio at MCG footy matches for a while. I kept begging her to ask him to turn the volume down.

Didn’t work.

I think it's a distinct advantage to have played a game the week before if you're playing a team who hasn't played since August/Sept.

Having only half the comp playing in opening round creates that situation and is a failed concept that doesn't seem to have a benefit. The extra week in the season obviously has a benefit but only hlaf th teams playing?

Yet it’s a distinct disadvantage to be playing second week of March having played late into September.

The people who like it probably want AFL 52 weeks of the year.

Plus the AFL whole marketing ploy was because the NRL was in Vegas, then they scheduled it head to head with their 1st round anyway…

7 days. Oooooh

I don't think there's much disadvantage there.

The disadvantage comes round 1. Last year we played Port. We'd had an AFL game the week before. They hadn't played at that intensity for over 5 months. They were shell shocked and we had easily our biggest win of the year. That's where the disadvantage is.

Was the perfect response to the week before & the 'too old, too slow' media storm we copped all week too. I loved that match.

Subjective whining about things you don’t like.
  • Making rule changes and then changing those rules again.
  • Failure to support umpiring and making it a professional role.
  • Questionable tribunal system.
  • Goal review.
  • Poor excuses.
  • Making ill-informed statements like we saw with Schultz’s concussion and the umpires.
  • knee-jerk reactions to NRL initiative.
  • NGA. The reasons it was introduced and how it is being exploited.

You obviously feel they are doing a great job. I don’t share that opinion.
I’d love to understand why you feel that way.
