Pete Sampras to come back like it's 1994. :drunk:

In the men's, why have the 4 wildcards to Australians gone to Duckworth (33yo -- 34yo in 9 days), O'Connell (31yo), Thompson (31yo) and Hijikata (24yo)?

Hijikata I'm happy with as 24 is still relatively young. And Thompson has at least been top 30 and made the 4th round at slams before. But what is the point of giving a wildcard to Duckworth or O'Connell?

Just glancing at the rankings, why not give the experience to someone like McCabe (22yo) or Sweeny (24yo)?

Tennis Australia awarded one to the highest points winner over the three Australian Challengers at the end of last year. It was Duckworth that won it. They did that rather than the play off so he did earn it.

It does seem a waste though

The whole ticket prices have gone f*cking bonkers. 10-15 years ago was a tournament for fans. In 5 years its not going to be who's in the rolex marquee, but paying for a week 1 ticket with one.

It wasn't even that bad 4 or 5 years ago. I go alot so I'm prob spending thousands across the 2 weeks but it's getting a bit ridiculous now.

I remember buying a men's final ticket for $500 the year Rafa came back and beat Med from 2 sets down, lower section, a day prior to the match. Same seat is currently 4.5k.

Paid $300 odd for the women's final last year, in lower. Same seats are currently at 1k.

They do come down closer to the match if they can't get rid of them - so I refuse to buy them ahead of time now.

20 bucks to go watch the qualifiers? Use to be free entry

It used to be $20 for a ground pass for the tournament proper when I lived in Melbourne

I used to just buy a seat on the main court for $50 in case it rained / I got sick of the heat / I got sick of fighting other people for a seat at the outside courts

Weekends got too busy but it used to be gold for the first 5 days

Looking it up now and if you wanted to do that for the day session on centre court the tickets start at $189

Holy ****

I haven't been to an Open since 2018. Got to see the great Federer in his last grand slam final? When he beat Cilic.

Sabalenka is a sure thing.

Needs to get past the Bris International winner curse

Favourite but wouldn't say she's a lay down stone cold moral yet. Prone to a shocker against Coco not that I rate Coco's chances to get there

You'd be silly to tip otherwise but we said the same last year and Keys won.

Men- we are due a weird winner so I'll take a value selection and say FAA to win his first Slam and it's a bit of a gut feel and in the back of my mind his form over the last 2-3 months last year.
